sounds like it may even be more than 3 years?

St. John's and coach Steve Lavin are finalizing an extension to keep him with the Red Storm for the foreseeable future, a source told ESPN.
Lavin has one year remaining on his current contract. The number of years on the new deal is still being discussed.

I think Lavin will be fine. Three 20 win seasons and 2 NCAA's and 2 Nit's. He made the program better.
Lavin has shown he can recruit nationally. He has to do a better job with local recruits.
Lavin only had one recruiting class and they didn't play to their full potential. It happens. Judge the guy after he's had 2 recruiting classes.
You hire Hurley and he might leave after the program gets really good. Same with the other young coaches. I don't want SJU to be a stepping stone. Lavin likes St. John's and wants to stay in NY. Keep him !

I think you hit the question. Will a young coach coming into the Big East view it as the destination, or as a stepping stone to a bigger F5 program?

Duke doesn't want Hurley. If they did, he would have been on the bench next to Coach K before he got his first HC gig.

Update from Zags Blog:
http://zagsblog.com/articles/lavin-st-j ... ussed-yet/

Steve Lavin and his higher-ups at St. John’s have begun their annual end-of-year talks but have not yet discussed an extension, a source told SNY.tv Wednesday evening.

So who knows what's going on at St John's.

looking on twitter some St John's fans think that the Lavin extension talk may be leaks from Lavin.

I guess 1 thing to remember Lavin used to work at ESPN, so he does have some connections there.

just saw interesting tweet from Jeff Goodman:

Lots of coaches whose futures likely determined soon: Rick Barnes, Donnie Tyndall, Travis Ford, Steve Lavin.

With him on that tweet I would think that pretty much refutes the stories that we heard last night and it's still up in the air.

Take it with a grain of salt but unless I misinterpreted my source, it looks like Lavin is done at SJU.
