Okay so-- "I'd be saying that as far as I've heard, there hasn't been anything shady with backdoor deals going on. The IW stuff was out in the open."
but-- And by the way, I'm not trying to say we are squeaky clean, but I'd say generally we are relatively clean. Nothing huge has come onto the forefront like with IW's shady recruitment..."
....contradictory much??
And how exactly did Tiny Morton "demand" a position to get get Whitehead? Does Morton sign the NLI? Are all HS coaches required to approve their players' college choices? The only way adding Morton to the staff makes a huge difference is if it's something Isaiah Whitehead wants.
So Lavin suspended Obekpa for exhibtion games for something minor- what a saint- much better guy than Willard. oh wait...what's that? Willard suspended Fuquan Edwin- widely considered a top 5 player in the Big East- for an exhibition game for something minor. Would he have done the same thing as Lavin in the Harrison case? Who knows? Fortunately, he has players of higher character than that and hasn't had to worry about it.
Now lets talk about how much more St. John's has to show over the past 15 years than Seton Hall. Well, over that time, St. John's has been to the NCAA tournament 3 times, the NIT 2 times and averaged 15.5 wins per year. Over that same span, Seton Hall has been to the NCAA Tournament 3 times, the NIT 4 times and averaged 16.6 wins per year. Yup, the Johnnies have been way better. It's also been over a decade since St. John's has won on Seton Hall's home floor.
Now, I certainly have to give credit where it's due. Steve Lavin is an excellent recruiter, and he's shown it both at St. John's and at UCLA. He had the #1 class in the nation twice while at UCLA. And as you mentioned, stealing Obekpa from Cincy in the 11th hour was very impressive- but also widely considered to be very shady.
