I think the only school coming into the conference without a pre-existing conference rival is Creighton. Butler and Xavier have already been fierce competitors with some fiery games between the two. Everyone else has been in the same conference with each other for several years. I guess the question is, who will Creighton's fans consider their rival? Marquette? DePaul?

I get the sense that most Creighton fans feel Marquette will develop into our rivalry game. There is some history between the programs dating way back.
Nebraska by birth, Creighton by choice.

It's clear to see from this thread that St Johns - Nova should continue to be quite intense ha. As a Mets and Islander fan I can tell you I have no wish to see any team from Philadelphia have any success on any platform :D

I agree that Marquette - Creighton should be the best rivalry to form out of the new setup. It would be great to see DePaul come back to some sort of national relevance and then you could have some great match ups out there with Marquette and Creighton!
We are New York's team. We are St. John's.

Thats ok. I'll be over here admiring our National Championship banner ;)
Was thinking the same. Also proclaiming the SJU-Gtwn as the undisputed best rivalry is a bit much. That 85 SJU team was excellent and better than the Nova team but we certainly were not chopped liver. The problem was that we were not scared of Gtwn that year but I think you were.

Gtwn is our natural school rival b/c we are similar. Same type of kids go to both. SJU is a bit more urban/commuter and SJU needs to get back to consistent winning before they are a rival for anyone. Moving forward most looking forward to building a new rivalry with X. Have always admired their program from a distance.
I guess Fox Sports respectfully disagrees with you considering St. John's/Georgetown were the featured teams in the FS1 commercial. Fox Sports knows that SJU and Georgetown are the conference's top commodities featuring JT3 and Lavin (not Jay Wright). Like I said before this is the best rivalry and is bar far the most valuable rivalry going forward for FS1 concerning TV ratings and buzz with games at MSG and Verizon Center in 2 of the top 4 sports markets in the nation.

Ok time for a preview of things to come on this board when the competition starts...

Tourney wins since 2000:
SJU - 0
Nova - 12

How 'bout you guys worry about winning your first tourney game in 15 years this year before you proclaim yourselves the top league commodity. I understand the importance of the NY market and all but honestly you sound like a Rutgers football fan. Will FS1 put you in every prime time spot if SJU continues to be a marginal team? If the rivalry is so good let me know when the last time you two played a meaningful game together?
Go Nova!

Is it out of the realm of possibility that Lavin was selected because he is a former TV personality and may be more recognizable as a result....

Plus, the colors worked better on the commercial with St John's in red, which ties us into our other thread...! Two blue teams would have looked like a summer scrimmage game.

The rivalry thing will work itself out, teams battling for the title on a yearly basis will develop rivalries from before. Our rival from the last BE currently resides in something called the AAC
