From BJU's Coaching Caroussel thread...

I would be SHOCKED if that's true. Mac turned down Ohio St last year, which is a much better job than Bama, Unless he's just aching to get out of here, I'm calling BS.

Agreed. It doesn't make much sense.
- Way outside the midwest and he's never coached outside of NE, ND, and IA.
- Fanbase that's much less interested in hoops than here
- He's still coaching right now. He's never struck me as the type to be taking calls when his team is still playing.

The only reasons that would make sense is that he just wants a change of scenery like Dana or if he was trying to get out before incoming sanctions. The latter seems unlikely with what we know, but Mac would know more than any of us.
Maybe he's in a better position to go somewhere new now that his daughter is graduating high school? But he'd be walking away from a team that could be his best in his time here depending upon how the roster shakes out next season?

(Bold and color from me) Great News! Hyenas scattering from the Lions. Probably a fake news take, but surely brightened my day! Chao Mac. ;)

PS: Oh...and Adoraz. Who knows what the coaching caroussel/available coaches will look like next year. You've got a good crop of available coaches THIS YEAR to chose amongst. Throw some big dinars Creighton.

Bama would be a great situation for any coach. SEC country; recruits close by; take them to a Bama football game; Sabin is highly supportive of all athletic orgs and the campus in general, he will help with recruiting; plenty of cash in the budget, beautiful campus, with lots of new construction (has about doubled student population since Sabin came); great weather; and, not a great deal of pressure to win at the rate of a Kentucky/Duke/etc., just be competitive, make the tournament most years and finish near the top of the SEC now and then. As long as Sabin is there . . .

I don't think it hurts us and there is a tone that we've been able to set that we are the Alpha School in Philly recruiting. So when the next Kyle Lowry, Jason Lawson or Alvin Williams comes along and wants to stick close to home, there is no debate over which school he'll choose.

There are a few tournament idea that I can get behind. For us, it's the best of both worlds as it frees up 2 or (in a bad year 3) games while still keeping the Big 5 tradition in a format that has legs long term. Maybe make it happen when the kids are away? Not sure if the other schools can be gently persuaded in this direction...

As for the actual topic of this thread, I've never liked Martelli. Always thought the guy may have had good intentions, but was a self absorbed diva. It's always about him. Apparently Martelli feels that his family was harmed and that he's no longer Saint Joe's lifer because he didn't get a farewell campaign.

If you feel like listening to woe is me interview...

I've suggested this in the past (with incorporating Drexel for a round 6 teams, and then playing at the Palestra for the historical aspect), and been told that it would then be classified as an exempt tournament, and we'd have to give up our yearly trip to Atlantis or elsewhere.

Yeah, we'd need NCAA to relax its rules for it to happen. I'd still support non-tournament triple headers, or even a pair of them per season. But admittedly it'd lose the appeal of a tournament.
