Rooting for St John's to get in the Dance. Right now the rpi is a little on the edge, but a long way to go and good noncon wins. It would be great to get the 7 in!!

St John's OOC hopes took a bump today as St Mary's lost at home to Pepperdine. Took St Mary's all the way down to like 71(from like 47 I believe going into today). Right now, St John's best OOC win is vs Long Beach State at 68. I kid you not.

right now- here's how many more wins I think teams need to get into the tourney prior to the BET-
Nova- 1-9
Georgetown- 3-5
Butler 3-6
PC 3-6
Seton Hall 4-5
Xavier 5-4
St John's 6-4

I think Xavier really needs 19 wins before the tourney to feel safe. Same with St John's.

Very good day for the conference though. All 5 games went just as needed. Think that SH/Xavier game especially. If they had needed to go 5-4 after this game to get in- with Georgetown and PC 2x, along with nova and St John's- that gets to be pretty tough. A bit more wiggle room now. Xavier needs 5-4 and it won't be easy- but still a smidge easier due to Creighton 2x along with Marquette 1 time.

Glad to see Georgetown take Creighton out by the wood shed. Last 8 games though get real tough- St John's 2x, Seton Hall 2x, PC, @ Nova, and @ Butler. Only other game is DePaul at home. I think Wednesday is a huge one with PC.

I'm not worried about Creighton. You guys still fight and even knocked off my Johnnies full of veterans. Obviously losing some of the top players in all of college hoops will be a huge blow to any team unless you're UK. Though it's a rough year (understandably for CU), I just get a sense of confidence from your program. Coach McDermott seems to know what he's doing and Creighton is like shooters U. All you need are some rugged bodies to be able to score down low and a few more athletic bodies. The shooters will never be a problem with Creighton. I have always said if SJU and CU combined teams, we'd be the #1 team in the Big East. SJU needs shooters and CU needs athleticism, blocks, and more grit.

This post is insane coming from you. If anyone is worried about Creighton going downhill, it is you.

Wins OOC are not a concern for the Big East. There are a ton of opportunities in conference for all of us.

This was an excellent day of results for SJU. First of all, they just finished a sweep of an RPI 23 team. Long Beach is 58. Syracuse is 69. St Mary's is 72. Minnesota is 90. Their opponents Villanova, Butler and Duke all won today, and Gonzaga is going to smoke Memphis tonight.

And they got a ton of losses from other bubble teams.

Villanova and Butler's wins don't help/hurt St John's at all- that's all end of the day extremely circular- yes Nova is helped, but that also means the loss to DePaul now is worse. Same with Butler- now that Marquette win isn't quite as good. Also Duke/Gonzaga winning helps the RPI out a smidge, but it's always going to be a good loss period- nothing changed as a result of today.. St John's right now has 2 NCAA tourney level wins, that's the 2 vs PC. They have to get more than that. They need to beat at bare minimum 2 of Butler, Xavier, Georgetown, Nova(all those on the road), and Seton Hall, Xavier, and Georgetown- while sweeping Creighton, DePaul, and Marquette 2nd time around. St John's has to get to at least 18 D1 wins to have any shot at all. 17-13 just won't get them in 2015 tourney. I think the problem is on here you(and others) think it's the selection committee that was in place back in the 80's, where 17-14 Big East teams would regularly get in the tourney. Dude, that ship has sailed....

Also, some teams are now on the bubble because of today. Richmond who beat VCU now is projected at 19-12. That puts them at 51.7 RPI which is right where 1 more win gets them in. Rhode Island same kind of thing after beating GW.

I think the thing with St John's quite frankly- today didn't clinch St John's anything- but a loss would have close to knocked them out. This week St John's ends the week about the exact same RPI as they started the week. Pretty bad when you beat #23 Providence that you are saying that.

The last week in February will tell the tale for St. John's. They have 3 straight home games vs Seton Hall, Xavier, and Georgetown. All 3 games figure to be close. They can't afford to lose any of them. If they win all 3, they'll put themselves in position to go to the tournament, barring any major upsets the rest of the way.

No one should sleep on Xavier. It is a really good team. The intensity of the game yesterday was tantamount to a BET or NCAA game. There are 5 teams or more who could win this year's BET although Nova is rightly favored. I look forward to seeing everyone in MSG!

Total meltdown by Marquette again, as Butler closed regulation on a 8-0 to win in overtime. Congrats to Butler as they learned they can win when Jones gets shutdown with 2 pts.

I would agree, as long as they don't lose to any of Creighton, DePaul, or Marquette. That would get them 6 more wins and that should be enough, unless something strange happens.

I'll say one thing as well- for a couple teams- this is a HUGE week coming up...
Seton Hall- @ DePaul, Marquette. With their final 7 games with Georgetown, PC, Nova, St John's, Creighton, PC, and Georgetown(with 4 of them on the road)- a loss makes it where they pretty much have to go 3-4 in those 7 games to feel good entering the BET. That's tough. Tuesday night vs DePaul is just huge for them....
Providence- @ Georgetown, @ Xavier. A win here pretty much clinches a bid. But if not- 2 losses and they are 16-8 and 6-5. Would make it where they would have to beat DePaul, and Marquette- and win then at least 1 of Nova 2x, Seton Hall 2x, or Butler. Should happen- especially with 3 of those 5 games being home ones- but- pressure starts turning up
Xavier- Creighton, Providence. 2 close to must win games. A split here and they're 15-9, with games left @ Marquette, St John's x 2, @ Cincy, Butler, Nova, and @ Creighton. If 19-12 is their goal- would have to go 4-3 rest of the way(with 4 of the 7 on the road).
Also would say higher up- Nova starts a stretch on Saturday that will determine just how high of a seed they'll get... They play Georgetown, @ PC, @ Butler, and Seton Hall in a 9 day stretch.
