So, you sense a pattern based on two games, probably 10 years apart with different players and different coaches?

For your information, DePaul Basketball has a long and storied tradition of being softer than two-ply toilet paper.

As I noted earlier, I may be too sensitive. The last Jays trip to Allstate ended up with our All-American, Nate Funk, getting hurt by the DePaul team.

Creighton comes in and takes care of business.

They just showed the replay of Gibbs. They were both fighting for a lose ball and Gibbs foot gets caught behind Marreros foot and as he falls looks like it twisted.

Yeah, Creighton fan here. Only thing over the top is this post.

It was a hard foul and a freak accident as Gibbs got his foot stuck under the DePaul players foot and twisted his knee. Hopefully it's short term but not being able to bear weight on your leg is not a good sign.

So sick of being a punching bag.

Bring on the Mark Aguirre/Rod Strickland/Rashon Burno/Ty Corbin/Ben Howland/Anyone but Oliver Purnell Era.

Cool name from the past:
McDermott got a 30-10-5 line vs Seton Hall (pts-reb-ast) on Saturday. He's the first Bluejay to do that since Benoit Benjamin in 1985. I think of him as a Seattle Supersonic, similar to Xavier McDaniel. I looked him up and he was drafted 3rd overall by the Clippers, then went to Seattle for a couple of years... in all, he played for 16 different pro teams, including teams in Greece, Argentina and elsewhere.

Hard fought game, but experience won out. Certainly no dirty play on the Gibbs injury, just part of basketball. I just hope it's not serious.

I agree Bimbo, that was an ugly basketball game - but the more experienced\better team won the game. Road games are no gimmies in the Big East, and tonight proved that. I agree that the Gibbs injury was not the result of a dirty play, DePaul played very physically but I see no reason to call the Blue Demons "thugs" or anything like that. I am hoping that GG#10 is okay, but I for one would not expect him to be playing on Sunday vs. X. Good chance to start Devin Brooks, and see what happens - either way Sunday afternoon's game should be a doozy and I am looking forward to it.

I'll chip in here too and note that almost ALL Jays fans are on board that there was no "thuggish" play on that one. It's just something about that building for Creighton and injuries. Last time we played there we were on our way to a potentially special season and our best player, Nate Funk, tore his labrum and was out for the season, which went downhill pretty past. Now our number one "glue" guy, best assist player, and all around leader/coach on the floor could well be done for his career after that knee injury (he has a history of knee injuries). Add in that Doug wasn't able to lift his arm over his head in the second half (again just a freakish bump that reaggravated something from the Seton Hall game), and it just seems like a trip to that building has a higher than normal incidence of injury for Creighton players.

Oh -- and no chance that Mac starts Brooks instead of Gibbs. Brooks about HAS to come off the bench for Chatman. I'd look for Dingman to be the one who slides up to that starting role -- he's been playing lights out defense, gives us a bigger and stronger body, and just turned in one of his best all around performances ever. Add in that he's a Junior, and he'll absolutely get the start before JUCO Brooks, in my opinion. Mac values playing guys he can trust -- and I think he trusts Dingman more. Brooks gives us some real flash, a real spark offensively, etc. -- but he also gives us a handful of really dreadful decisions and turnovers a game (absolutely balances out way in favor of Brooks playing overall), and Mac won't start somebody in that situation. He'll keep Brooks coming off the bench.
