do a quick search from providence to spokane

it involves at least 2 and maybe three PLANE CHANGES - and that's one way

it'd be a terrible situation for student athletes - even worse for fans that might want to travel to a game.

First off, who the hell flies coach? I guarantee you Gonzaga, with their already enormous travel requirement doesnt (look at a map, the West is really, really big).

Secondly, it's not OUR problem. Its one, count 'em one, round trip a year. If Gonzaga wants to swing it, how can you be against adding them?

One round trip per year? Are you saying only add them for basketball? If it was just a limited scheduling arrangement for basketball it could work. But not as a conference member for all sports teams. It's idiotic.

Oh, and Gonzaga is not a mid-major. Stop giving credence to ESPN's made-up label to all schools in non-BCS conferences.

Mid Major - celebration of tournament appearances and Sweet Sixteens.

Major - celebration of Final Fours and Championships.

Add UConn.

Yes, its one road trip west per sport. Hell Track and Field and XC do this all the time already. Look at your Volleyball and Lacrosse teams - bet they make at least 1 or 2 roadtrips west, at least to Texas. And don't forget about playing Florida team and tournaments either. At a certain point, sitting in a plane for an extra hour or two is just that - sitting.

of course i remember fred garvin - it speaks to both my age and the fact that i'm from the quad cities...

also - someone mentioned that GU is interested - i'd actually contest that. are their fans interested? perhaps. sports writers who serve up endless drivel? probably. but is their BOD and univ president? i'd say that we really don't know - particularly after a lot of the story came out after the fact on how the new BE happened. until i hear something conclusive from those folks (which we won't because this isn't even something on the radar for NBE with all the other stuff going on concurrently) - then it's my opinion that it ain't happenin' - maybe that will change in a few years...

UConn - not an institutional fit. GU, unfortunately, not a geographical one.

at this point - i'd think it would be much more constructive and interesting to focus on what we have - versus what we are not.

we're days away from starting practice for the first NBE season - i think that'd be a much more worthy topic.

Do you travel? Have you ever competed athletically?

Fly to Spokane, make your 2 connections, compete, fly back, make your 2 connections, and compete again. Don't even worry about the extra missed classes.

Heck, don't worry about competing, just fly to Spokane and back, check your bags, deal with the travel... I bet you will not feel like it was just an extra few hours sitting vs. a bus trip or a short flight to Connecticut.

The Zags have been eliminated from consideration.

Surprised that it's that close.

Gonzaga is a great basketball team from a private school. That says they have a good shot.

I do realize that Gonzaga getting in eliminates SLU as well.
Big East Basketball is what it's always been. Great competition nightly.
If the Atlantic 10 didn't suck, why is everyone looking for the exits?
There is a reason why the A-10 left a team in the Central Time Zone...SLU, your move.

They have a couple of pages of pretty good comments too.
Definitely recommend reading through them.
