Jays won somehow. Not sure I’ve wanted to burn the tape after a win before, but this one probably qualifies.

Marquette and UConn both looked impressive. Anything less than a Sweet 16 from both of them should be disappointing.

Yep, and with UConn winning that should get them out of the 7-8 line which can make it really tough. They needed that- is only their 3rd Q1 win this year now.

Neither team is top 16 in NET/AP and haven't won a Tournament game in years, but you'd be disappointed if both don't make the Sweet 16? Are you expecting 5 Big East teams in the Sweet 16 or something?

I'd definitely like to see at least one Big East team (outside of Nova) make a deep run, but don't think it's reasonable to call either of those teams disappointing unless they pull off what will likely be Tournament upsets. Especially unfair for Shaka.

As for last night, another dud by St. John's. Need to win at this point regardless of who is out, too deep a hole not to.

Marquette right now is on bracketmatrix the 18th team. So that would be 4/5 game matchup. That's not an upset no matter which way it goes. UConn a bit tougher but I think they'll be on that 5 line as well.

I'd say maybe a better way to phrase it would be it'd be a disappointment if neither of them made the sweet 16. Neither one is going to have to win in an upset to make the sweet 16 most likely. Not like they're going to be a 7 seed and have to beat a 2 seed to make it.

I mean it's still technically an upset for Marquette (5 seed taking out a 4) even if it's by 1 point. Definitely an upset for UConn. Even if the line would be even it wouldn't be a reasonable take because Marquette's preseason expectations were to not even sniff the Tournament. Calling a first year coach disappointing for not making making the Sweet 16 is ridiculous. What's more reasonable is calling St. John's season disappointing given it's year 3 for our coach and we were expected to easily make the Tournament this year.

I agree with your second paragraph, if neither makes the Sweet 16 that'd be disappointing (big difference vs saying both teams need to make it), but for me it also depends on how the other teams do. If Providence makes the Elite 8 for example that'd offset it for me.

I think it's just more disappointing as to expectations that folks have right now. It's kind of like Providence right now- if they were to drop some games here and finish lets say 24-7(losing 2nd round of NCAA) going off of preseason, it'd be a great year. But based on where we are on 2/9/22, it'd be considered a disappointment.

I get that, but even considering today's expectations saying that both a 6 seed needs to take out a 3 and a 5 needs to take out a 4 isn't a reasonable take. As mentioned, I can agree with expecting one of the two to happen, but not both.

I'm not placing too much emphasis on any single team this year. I'd like to see at least 2 teams in the Sweet 16 and one in the Elite 8 (preferably not Nova to mix things up), though I could see the argument for expecting more than that. We have a lot of good teams this year but I'm unsure how many are good enough to make deep runs.

I guess expecting both to make it was unfair but at least one of them should. The Big East has a reputation issue when it comes to the tournament that we choke regularly (outside of Nova.) With 6 to 7 teams and 5 of those likely top 6 seeds, a good tourney would be 3 in the sweet 16 for me. There is always variance, but the Big East is due for a good collective NCAA tourney.

It's going to be interesting if the league end of the day will be able to have 5 top 6 seeds.

Providence, Nova, and Marquette seem definite top 6 right now.

UConn still has 3 definite Q1 games, home game with Seton Hall(they're #33) and road game with Creighton(they're 76). Out of 8 games left. That's a lot of tough games there.
Xavier still has 4 definite Q1 games, home game with Seton Hall(they're #33). Out of 8 games left. Again a lot of tough games there.
(oh, and both have to play @ St John's- one of those tricky Q2 games that probably is closer to a Q1 level type of game without the reward)

They play each other 2x still. If they split, I think the league gets 5 top 6 seeds. If one of them sweeps, that's going to get pretty tough.
