I am guessing that this was Creighton's choice...we knew the Nebby game was in Lincoln. If the Gavitt game was going to be an away game, i could envision Creighton saying "let's make Nebraska the Gavitt game" so that we could have another home game this year. Speculation on my part but it certainly makes sense given the 20 game league season and reduced OOC games.

That's a possibility. It'll be a young team next season, and how much does it help the team if they lose to an unknown Big 10 team on the road in like the first week of the season? Nebraska is as easy as it gets from that conference. What I don't really agree with is the disappointment of not getting an extra Big 10 team in the schedule. Creighton can schedule one if it wants.

Totally agree with the caveat that said Big10 team would have to be willing to play in Omaha this year, if the assumption about wanting another home game is correct.

The Gavitt Games contract is about to end, correct? Anyone know the odds of it being renewed?

If FOX wants it, the leagues will continue it.

There was a potentially very significant scheduling development announced on August 24, 2021. Whether or not the Gavitt Games are renewed from 2023 onward is still a matter of conjecture at this point, as there are too many variables in play to make an informed prediction.

Gavitt Tipoff Games - Wikipedia

The Gavitt Tipoff Games is an annual eight-game series played between the Big Ten Conference and the Big East Conference early in the college basketball season. The Gavitt Tipoff Games began in 2015 and will be played annually until 2022 as part of an eight-year deal.

Because they didn't want to undermine any existing scheduling agreements, the commissioners didn't introduce any new arrangements on that point. But Warren did say they hoped the alliance would pave the way to "epic matchups" down the road.

One subject that repeatedly came up is that today's announcement only represents a promise, but there is nothing more binding than that. Kliavkoff admitted as much admitting, "Today is a press release." Then he quickly added, "But it's also a commitment."

The news conference began with each of the commissioners giving their opening statements and comments about their newly formed alliance. They talked broadly about the possibility of scheduling contests between the three conferences among football, men’s and women’s basketball, and Olympic sports but there were no details on how that would work and there were no announcements of any future scheduling of games and contests between the three conferences that have not already be announced and previously scheduled.

In men’s and women’s college basketball, fans and alums of the institutions in the three conferences were hoping for a challenge and or multiple team event between the three conferences similar to the ACC/Big Ten challenge to be announced as early as the 2022-23 season. However, the press conference left more questions than answers.
