I have to say that I don't care who's ranked and I don't pay any attention to the polls. They are an anachronism, left over from the 1940's when the first poll was introduced. With computers we're far better able to compare the relative accomplishments of teams across the country who play different schedules than by taking an opinion poll.
just as in politics, polls tell us more about the voters and their opinions than they tell us about the actually issues being surveyed - in this case, the comparative merits of various teams. A big problem with polls is that the voters think they're voting on who the "best" teams are. They shouldn't be because that's a completely theoretical question. They should be voting on which teams have accomplished the most. Actual accomplishments are far more important in judging competition than someone's opinion of whose got the "best" team. So many extraneous factors enter into the judgments of these voters in response to that question as to make the whole process a sham.
Just my 2 cents on the matter
Rant ended.
