Cal isn't even a great basketball school like Xavier but because they are a huge state university with a major football team they will be seen as better. Sick of this.

Berkeley is a great city and a Top 5 national university. To take a job there isn't a step down from many places and recruiting and coaching on the west coast would have some advantages.

if the best programs were based in the best areas to recruit, the nicest weather, and best academics KU and Kentucky wouldn't be so dominant.. Not to mention Syracuse and UConn and Michigan St.

SUre it'd be nice, but what has Cal ever done to make someone think that's a destination job ....for basketball.

I have been an XU fan for over 30 years but some claims are far to inaccurate to even consider serious. The following sentence borders on the absurd: "SUre it'd be nice, but what has Cal ever done to make someone think that's a destination job ....for basketball"

Permit me to list the U. Cal Berkeley basketball record.
18 NCAA bids
7 NIT bids
1 NCAA national championship
1 NIT championship
3 NCAA final fours
1 NCAA championship runner up

The Muskies have had 1 NIT championship (1958), no NCAA championships no final fours, no runner up finishes and fewer NCAA and NIT bids. If Cal Berkeley is not a destination job in basketball then the word destination has undergone a complete change in meaning.

Good job, you win. I said "ever."

But take an actual closer look, they've been pretty irrelevant since 1960. A Sweet 16 in 97, but that's it.

Right now, I'd say they are equal. Cal has better academics, better perceived conference although not that far apart IMO, more money. Xavier has had better recent success, more support, better facilities.

Academics have NOTHING to do with the attractiveness of a basketball program. I mean, maybe they should, but if anything wouldn't higher academics be a negative factor for a coach (not that any of these high academic schools outside Stanford actually apply the same academic standards to their athletes).

There MIGHT be more money, but are they really spending it? I honestly, don;t know, but have never gotten the feeling that they really invest in their program. But that goes for most Pac-12 schools it seems - they're a little more even-keeled and value all their athletic programs.

it's all about what your goals are, where you are with your family and if you're happy. For me, Cal would be a no brainer if the money is right but I like the Golden State and I would be more than comfortable thinking I could win a Championship there.

Rumors are Mack was irritated with X how they handled the Dez Wells situation and it appears there is a little bit of chaos in the program as I type. Semaj is declared for draft and now Justin Martin is apparently leaving if he graduates as expected.

That said, I have always had the opinion Mack would be at X for a long time. Cincinnati is a fine city and X a fine university.

I think the longer this goes the better for Xavier maintaining Mack. If it was going to happen, it'd be like Buzz and so fast.

If Mack leaves, do any of the recruits go with him or reopen their recruitment? That's a damn good class.

Would depend if they kept Steele (associate head coach) or went outside for the hire.

As was just mentioned, I'd say the silence is a good thing and I wouldn't expect this to drag out past tomorrow either way
