It wasn't that clear-cut. Southern Miss, Florida State, and even Wisconsin-Green Bay all had legitimate cases for receiving a bid.

Of course, those cases were somewhat bolstered by efficiency numbers, which the Committee didn't seem to care about this year, a big reversal from the past couple of years.

The 1st 4 teams out according to the committee were SMU, FSU, Green Bay, and Georgetown. Especially if SMU had beaten Houston, SMU is in.
