As for what was said, 1) it doesn't matter and 2) what do you think Smart would say the fan said? Of course you'd automatically think of the worst thing someone can possibly call you to try and downplay what just happened. Pick any word in the dictionary that he called Smart and it doesn't justify in any way what Smart did. I know the Texas Tech fan is a jerk, but he's a fan and MS is a player. There are different expectations.
I just think it's absurd for people to put words in the guy's mouth and paint him as something that he isn't. To this second there is zero proof he even uttered a racist term. Of course he would say that though to get a lower punishment and get some sympathy. Absurd.

Get a grip on reality. Seriously, I hope you're trolling because if you're serious you are a horrible human being. You seriously think buying a ticket allows yo to say anything you want to another human being without fear of repercussions? I'm ashamed you went to the same school as me.

You just implied they are on the same playing field. I said there are DIFFERENT expectations. Fans are just fans…they will yell, cheer, etc. Fans yell "Start the bus!" at the opponents, they cheer when the opponents foul out and yell at them calling them every name in the book. But that doesn't mean you can get in a physical altercation. This is not the street. This is a high level basketball game. The players are taught to tune out, ignore, and be the bigger man. Smart vs. that guy is like a guy confronting a girl. For his name, he's not very smart. What if a girl yells whatever the worst thing you consider at him? Does she deserve to get shoved too? Same concept. You have 1 huge athlete and 1 regular Joe idiot yelling stuff at you. Your job is to laugh it off and walk away. Not confront him. There is no right to not be offended. It's not illegal to yell stuff at players. It's illegal however to physically assault a fan as a player. There are repercussions as fans for yelling really terrible things, but those include being kicked out of the game or warned first then being thrown out. Being physically assaulted is not a repercussion that should ever happen.
Amazing how you can side with the guy who physically assaulted vs. the guy who said something stupid trying to taunt the player just like most other fans across sports. If it happened to your father or brother I guarantee you'd sing a different tune.

To date there is ZERO evidence of a racial slur. Only that Smart claimed such. But when someone does something stupid and knows they will get in big trouble, what do they do? Exaggerate what the person said to get them crazy. Unless there is an audio recording or a clear lip sync of the fan using an ethnic slur, you cannot just jump to wild conclusions. So when you have any evidence, show me. My point is that even if that is what was said (and I remind you this still has ZERO evidence...just because you brought it up) it still doesn't excuse him. In that situation, you go to the ref and tell him what's going on. They would have the fan thrown out and the game would go on with no incident. You should work in the media because you are sensationalizing even with zero evidence. It's all he said she said. So if I'm a "terrible person" for demanding evidence instead of jumping to conclusions and labeling the guy as a card-holding racist, then so be it. The fact is, if the fan was any race other than white, you'd be saying he was "a dumb fan" but not label him as racist. That's my big issue.
By the way, you said MS and the fan are the same size? Are you nuts? It's an obese out of shape man who appears to be 55 or older against a 6'4 220 lb college athlete in his prime. You think that's evenly matched? Lol...in the words of Cris Carter...come on, man.

1. Are you sure about their size difference? Who cares how old he is, he should know better than yelling racial slurs. If you don't want to get into an altercation with a 6'4 220 lbs (He is listed as 6'4 200 lbs and you know they exaggerate a bit, prob more like 6'2 190)kid in his prime then don't start shit with one.
2. He didn't tell the refs prior to the incident because what the guy said that lead to the incident was said right then and there. Smart hasn't been all over the news saying the guy called him a racial slur, he was saying it right at that very moment! That doesn't sound like someone making something up to cover their ass. As he's being pulled away he's pointing at the guy screaming, "You know what you called me, you called me a n-----!" That sure doesn't sound like someone thinking of an excuse to cover his ass.
3. This isn't his first road game. This isn't the first time people called him names. Why would he now freak out over being called a piece of crap? Whats more likely, this guy called him a POC and he freaks out or the guy calls him a racial slur and thats why he freaked out? Whats more likely? The latter of course!
4. Here you are defending the fan. Where is your proof that he didn't say what Smart accused him of? The fan himself (more than likely at the schools behest) has agreed to no longer come to any Tech games for the remainder of the season. So the fan himself is admitting some fault in this situation.
5. Go back to class kid, you still got a lot to learn in life. This isn't a court of law where Smart has to prove beyond the shadow of a doubt what that man said. This is societal rules, we can make up our own minds on what we see and hear, and from both of those things this guy crossed the line and said something you should never say to another human being and got shoved for his trouble. Could have been worse, lucky he wasn't punched in the face.

1. Apply the same reasoning to a guy beating a girl. Men are stronger and bigger on average. That's why it's looked down upon. If you seriously think the chubby guy who looks old enough to be retired could take a 6'4 220 lb player in his prime then you are off your rocker.
2. Speculation...just pure speculation. You see what you want in this instance instead of giving proof.
3. Because they were going to lose the game? He's a sore loser. You see this on the playgrounds across America all the time. You are much more likely to get into a fight with someone when you are a great team that is about to lose to a bad team over name calling versus in a win and someone talks crap. Did you see the Texas Tech fans going nuts celebrating? He was pissed. And due to his immaturity and being a sore loser, whatever the guy said to him put him over the edge. It was a mix of what was said and the context where he knew they were going to lose. Easily explainable.
4. You don't prove negatives buddy. You can't prove the Easter bunny doesn't exist. You look for positive proof that he does. And you still have none.
5. Societal rules? We can make up our own minds? Yeah we can make up our own minds, but there's a difference between making up your mind based on evidence or lackthereof and making up your mind to create a situation you want. You ignore evidence and assume he wears a white hood. The only reason you are saying this is because the guy's white. I'm sick of this guilty until proven innocent crap. Stop lying and pushing your agenda. Shame on you for being the definition of prejudiced. You are the very thing you are putting down. Congrats. I'd love to see your take on this situation if the fan was your family member and he said something stupid but not a racial slur, but some guy said "Hey, I bet he's racist!" and he got crucified over being something with zero evidence. And finally, as if your stance wasn't ridiculous enough, did you ever consider that the TEXAS TECH players are also mostly black?! So why would he use a racial slur? LOL. Makes zero sense every way you look at it. I think you need deep psychological help for either your white guilt or anti-white racism.
