The Peach Bowl is usually at night on New Year's Eve. SEC-ACC matchup. Sponsored by Chik-Fil-A or a similar outfit.
The Astro-Bluebonnet Bowl isn't played anymore. :)

4 bowls on New Year's Eve. 3 on ESPN, 1 on CBS.
The big one is the Chick-fil-A at 8:00 PM.

And the big 1 is the chick filet bowl tells you everything you need to know about sports on Dec 31st unless its the NFL. There will be zero national interest in this card.

Well to be fair the Chick-Fil-A Peach bowl is the biggest non-bcs game in terms of viewership 8,557,000 people watched that is some national attention. It will be part of the college football playoff so it will get national attention. I wont be watching it but it is major primetime competition.

The Chick-Fil-A is the SEC vs ACC, so the fanbase isn't from our region. It will go up against Villanova-Butler and Marquette-Creighton.

while I do like the idea of NYE games it is not smart in terms of tv viewership. Football is going to beat basketball 100% of the time. No matter where the fan base is located. People in our fan base area will watch a football game over our basketball games.
Nebraska raised, Creighton by choice!

The whole end of December is bowl season so there really isn't a good time. It is an alternative to football on New Years eve and the fact that all 10 teams will be playing makes it more of an "event." The bowl games will easily get better ratings than basketball no matter who is playing. Plus, Fox doesn't have access to bowl games yet so they need to show something...

New Year's Eve is about letting go of the old (however reluctantly) and looking forward to the new. The hope that next year will be better than the past. About fondly remembering friends not with us anymore (Auld Lang Syne), but appreciating those we have. It's about renewal and expectation. It's like the night before you travel to Italy for the first time. It's like Christmas Eve as a kid. It's like the first time you enter Fenway, coming up the ramp and just before you see the brilliant green grass and Green Monster for the first time. Having a Big East marathon on New Year's Eve is the perfect metaphor for what we're doing. It's a perfect kickoff day for an excellent conference. Man, I love that the Friars are home for it.

College football on New Year's Eve is about getting drunk and being obnoxious and doubling-down on bad bets with your bookie and scarily remembering past New Year's Eves when you threw up on your pillow at 3am after your date bailed on you because you were acting like a jackass at dinner with friends.

Not so fast. There are some Xavier fans here in the heart of Dixie.
(although when you live in SEC land, football is king)
