VCU has been decent but not dominant like they were with Shaka. My bad Johnnies team played with them all game in a nail biter. They were totally outclassed by St. Mary's in the tourney. VCU just doesn't move the needle and neither does Dayton who just lost their great coach. I would expect both programs to pop up every few years as being decent but nothing beyond that. I don't think these will be consistent top 25 type programs after losing their coaches. As a SJ fan I know that more instability at the coaching position leads to mediocrity at best. It's never a sure thing to hire someone either...I'm not sure even Rick Pitino or Calipari would be able to get St. John's in the top 10. It would be interesting though...it's all about fit.

When Xavier and Butler were in their mid major conferences, you knew they were sure things to succeed in the Big East. They always played like major programs.

There is only one team that that should even be in the conversation to be added and that is UCONN

That is only if they drop football which will never happen

No need to expand because it looks like Georgetown might actually start to contribute to the conference

Agree. We are now in a position of strength, not need. We should only be going for top notch programs at this point. Many forget that the Big East has been wildly successful with St. John's and Georgetown very weak. If we can get those programs back on their feet, it will go a LONG way. We don't need expansion, we need some of our sleeping giants to wake up and join the likes of Butler, Xavier, Nova, Creighton, etc.

the thing about looking at the conference is how much old fashion luck is involved...

This year for instance the BE was in OOC games a whopping 19-9 in games decided by 5 points or less. 3 years ago when the conference barely got 4 teams in, the league was only 16-12 in those games. Get 2-3 more wins that year and getting 5 or 6 is very possible(plus getting Xavier probably out of Dayton). Getting 2-3 more losses this year, and getting 7 is much more unlikely- with the caveat that even if it were still 7 it'd have made it much more likely even if it did happen to have Xavier forced to play in Dayton- thus changing the math totally on their run to the elite 8. Or last year where the league went 15-7 in those 5 point games. Just look at Providence and Butler last year who made the tourney with 3-0 and 2-0 records in those games. Bare minimum those wins kept them from having to play in Dayton, if not being in the tourney all together.

And as we saw this year- luck probably helped get PC, Marquette, and Seton Hall into the tourney. If the injuries don't happen, the odds all 3 of those get in are pretty remote.

No team in the A10 has made it to the second weekend more than once, in this century.

Was not my intent to cause a problem.
My comment indicated that no A10 team has played in the second weekend of the tournament (Sweet 16).
And I believe it is accurate. VCU has played in one S16 this century, on their run to the Final Four.

So 6 straight 1st weekend or 1st Four exits. But hey, at least they got in. They might be better off staying in the A10 so they can at least keep that streak going.

Well its hard to beat those blue blood teams like the ones they drawed the past few years.Michigan, Indiana, Oklahoma ,Ohio State. All of our losses agaist them were literally by 2 points except the Michigan game. Even the Stephen A Austin game was by two points but that was a tough one to swallow. I think those metrics speak louder than words and prove that we belong with the best of them.
