What about CMA and his staff makes you say that? Unlike Mullin and to a lesser extent Lavin, the effort and team culture is clearly there. They've been out there just as much as any other BE coach the past few months. Doesn't guarantee success on the court, but as someone who follows closely I see no reason to be negative. Him and his entire staff have been extremely impressive so far. Polar opposite of Mullin and co.

That said, I suppose St. John's being cursed is also a possibility.

I think you could just say the head coaches were polar opposites. I think there were a couple of guys on Mullin's staff that were putting in the effort, but it's a lot different when the head guy doesn't put in the effort.

I think Mike Anderson will do well at St. John's, but the quality of the depth this year could be a challenge.

Of the 3 ACs:
Mitch- didn't do much at all besides sit on the bench
GSJ- did a lot of the HC duties, such as coaching and running practice, but didn't recruit
Matt- did a lot of recruiting, but not much else

Mullin- mostly a figurehead. Didn't run practices, didn't recruit, and didn't even show up to recruiting visits. Last summer for instance, DePaul got a pretty solid big graduate transfer. That same transfer showed up to our campus, but Mullin didn't attend his visit. That is likely why he chose DePaul over St. John's. Who could blame him?

Mitch was terrible (Mullin failed to fire him, like most of us wanted), but you're correct in that GSJ and Matt did a lot. The problem is in today's game, all the ACs basically do a little of everything. They recruit, they lead practices, they coach, etc. Matt was asked wayyyyyy too much as the only recruiter. GSJ was asked wayyyyyyy too much to basically do Mullin's job. Formula for a disaster, and as you said it all went back to the HC.

As for this year with CMA and staff, I'm hoping for an NIT caliber year. We'll see, but I do love their approach to running the team. Everyone puts in the effort needed to run a high major program.

PC is trying to wean the fanbase off the Friar Dominic scary as sh-t mascot.

Last couple of years we've had a dalmation mascot too, and the thing is a super dancer... gets out there sometimes with the Friar Dance team.

There was a nickname contest for the dalmatian... winner was "Huxley", named after the street that bisects campus (now street dead-ends). Two other name options were great-- "Doris Bark" (after alumna Doris Burke), and my favorite "Dog Shammdog".

Thankfully, this year's recruiting class for UConn will never have to wear the "A" logo on the Huskies uniforms. Going to take a lot of soap to wash off the most recent LOLoss against IUPUI.
