So here's a theoretical. Lets say FOX asks us to expand to 12. Can't we just say no? When the media deal does expire I can only imagine we aren't going to be exclusive to FS1 again. So its not like they are running the league.

Of course we can, we already did, there is nothing in the entire 10-year contract that says we have to expand, if there was we would all certainly know about it. Now that we have won a NC at 10 we have even more power than before to tell Fox no thanks. We just all need to stay hungry and go after it even more. I know my Jays are stocking up on ammo like I've never seen in my 39 years of following them. X looks locked and loaded and ready to fire, hell so does every single program, coach and fan of this league. Don't want to get all gtmo but...

Gtmo - Duke's endowment is over 7 billion while the highest in the Big East is over 1 billion. Their basketball team is worth far more than any in the Big East. The only real knock against them is football, and even that has been solid the last few years. I lived in Raleigh where Duke apparel ran rampant and now I live in NYC where Duke is the only team that sells out MSG for SJU games. They're not going to drop football and a much larger TV contract to come to the Big East.

Yes, of course we can . . .

And Fox OTOH can walk away from the Big East in 7 years when the contract is up.

Exactly. Their fall back position is with a group of football schools. And that's their future.

The same rule you apply to them applies to you. You WANT UConn in the Big East. But they are not. What you WANT and what you'll get aren't necessarily the same thing.

It's over. Let it go.

Just a note. I think its in 9 years. Pretty sure its a 12 year contract.

For those that think Fox couldn't put pressure on the Big East you are delusional. If the deal was up right now- Fox would have all the cards. Big East draws mediocre on FS1. They could put on UFC and get the same or better ratings. If Big East wasn't on Fox, how much money could the Big East get with ESPN? So if the decision was same money per team but going to 12, or taking less money to stick with 10- and maybe significantly less money- I don't know that the presidents would agree to take less money.

It may be their immediate future but as I and others have shown you it may not be their long term future. They can't afford it long term without being a P5 school.

You are wrong. I don't want UCONN in the BE. I would take them if they drop football or move it down. The BE is just fine with the 10 we have. I think I have been very clear on that.

So, they can't afford it long term without being a P5 school? Really?

Are you predicting that every non-P5 school is dropping football in the next 10 years? Or dropping to FCS?

How do the rest of the schools in the AAC afford football? Or the schools in the Mountain West, MAC, Sun Belt, or Big West?

What you are ignoring Is who UConn is at this point. They're not the school they were 40 years ago when they were in the Yankee Conference and poised to join the Big East. They have made a LONG TERM commitment to FBS football. As a result, they will continue to affiliate with other FBS football schools one way or the other. While they would prefer P5, the AAC is their fall back, not the Big East. Believing that they will eventually come back to the Big East is delusional.

You are ignoring the article that was posted about UCONN and the state of Connecticut losing millions of dollars. So, no they cannot afford to proceed as they have long term.

No.

I don't care about the rest of the AAC but UCONN and UC for example are both in tight spots trying to be big time football without P5 money to really get them or keep them there. It was a nice ride for UCONN and UC in the old BE but if they don't get into a P5 conference soon, they are going to have to make some tough decisions.
