In view of the Commissioner's Statement, maybe we can close this thread until sometime around 2022.

You can read the whole quote in here: http://www.cincinnati.com/story/sports/ ... /80922404/

But to summarize, they aren't looking to expand.

No, of course they aren't RIGHT NOW. Once we get closer to the end of our TV deal then they will.

How do you know they'll definitively expand once we get closer to the end of the Fox contract?

It was about the part where he says they aren't looking to expand. You know dam well they will look into it since an expanded roster usually means a bigger contract. If it's not there they wont expand but they will look into it for sure.

Holy Cross is in the Patriot League Final. If they win, we can considers their 1-16 match with Villanova tryout for the Big East

Their 13-19, pretty sure they will have to win a game, just to have the honor of getting slaughtered by a one seed.

There was never even the remotest chance of expansion.

Maybe by 2022 we'll be in v. 2016 of this thread.

Interesting read. The article suggests a summer decision on expansion by the Big 12.

Then consider what Ackerman was quoted as saying in Cincy last month. It doesn't add up.

“And I would say generally it’s a quiet time in college athletics after a tumultuous couple of years that led to this configuration. I would say generally things are quieting down. If the last few years were seismic, I don’t see that happening for a while, that kind of level of seismic activity,” Ackerman said.

Thats not accurate. There was talk by the X AD of possible expansion. The success of the 10 team format put that talk to rest though.

Things will be quiet at the power conference-level. In the last go-around, you saw Syracuse, Pittsburgh, Nebraska, Colorado, Texas A&M, Missouri, Notre Dame, Rutgers, West Virginia and Louisville all switch power conferences. In today's climate, it will be very rare to see any changes between the Big 12, ACC, PAC-12, B1G or SEC. If the Big 12 expands, and there are pros/cons to each side, they will get either BYU or a number of schools from the American. They aren't getting anyone from the PAC-12, ACC, SEC or B1G - so, any move that IS made, will effect the G5 and the conferences under the power five.

The problem for the Big 12 is that, regardless of whether the expand or not, is that the gap between them and the B1G, SEC and PAC-12 will only grow with each passing year. No expansion candidate can change that - so the question becomes whether current Big 12 schools will try and bolt to another power conference before the Big 12 goes full-on Old Big East (where everyone starts jumping ship in radical fashion).
