Relax already. We have a lot to prove. It will be fun to see if we can get it done and done with consistency over the years. I think we can and we will. But who knows really. Same for those who think we have no chance in purgatory. They don't really know either for sure.

I think we all have a human tendency to think of ourselves, our geographical region, our culture, our way of doing things as being the center of the universe. It appears some from the east, in huge population centers, mega media centers think of their culture and ways as the end-all, be-all. Everywhere else is the sticks. It is human nature to have this tendency. Omaha does it too. We make fun of Wichita and other places with an arrogance. And we think its okay because we believe its true. But when we're on the receiving end of it, then it's suddenly not okay because others are being arrogant toward us. They obviously don't know what they're talking about. But seriously, if we were living on the east coast somewhere having little previous experience with Omaha and the rest of flyover country, do we think we would not have some attitude about the middle of the country too.

Omaha is never (at least not in a couple or more lifetimes) going to be like the big eastern populations centers in a lot of ways. Nothing against the big cities of the east. But while I like visiting them, I would never want to live there. Part of it is I appreciate my culture here. And part of it is I have my own biases. I mean I couldn't name half the Big East teams before this season. Doesn't mean they haven't been great teams. I mean I had heard of them but almost zero current familiarity with them. They just weren't in my orbit of midwest interests.

Human nature happens. Will continue to happen. Get over it. Show some self-confidence. It's going to be okay.

As far as whether Creighton belongs in the Big East and if they will be a top half contender. Time will tell. We'll just have to wait and see. In the meantime, enjoy the ride, make some new friends. Just remember to breathe. Not everything is a personal attack that has to be vigorously defended. And we're not going to get past all of our differences in one long thread. If we're deserving of credit, others will give it to us when they judge that to be the case for themselves.

(I am probably in trouble now with my own brethren. This is why I don't post too much. An opinion of one. Back to basketball.)

A classless and idiotic thread to ever be started in the first week of the first conference season as a bunch of new fan bases are getting to know each other. FryerFun intended it to start a bunch of sh!t and we have let him accomplish his goal.
Edrick, I can't to see our program play a game at Hinkle, and you just may enjoy a visit to Omaha to see our actual resources. Hop the Pony Express! :D
SO pumped to be a member of the new Big East!

Good summary. ALL of us at Creighton are excited to be a part of this conference- THE BIG EAST. There are some on here who just troll and bait team fans (maybe the new ones more)that we don't belong. Bottom line- we do belong and the BIG EAST wouldn't have invited Creighton, Xavier and Butler, if they didn't believe it for THE LONG TERM. I want every team to succeed in the BE ( and I realize in conf play that doesn't work so well). I have been out of school a long time and remember when we played Marq and DePaul every year. This is a culmination of my wishes to have our school participate in a league like this (beyond my wildest dreams) and I believe this will be a great basketball conference for a very long time. No one knows how any one team will produce in 2,5, or 10 years, but we know what our mission is for the league. Please ignore the trolls and enjoy what we have in common and know that each of his may not have it our way for any one year, but we will as a conference, lead- correctly in athletics and academics.

I think one of the things that drove Creighton posters nuts was that some were taking the position that Creighton has no chance to compete going forward. They weren't pondering the issue --- they were stating it as fact.

The recruiting class rankings was the weakest argument of all in my opinion. As some have pointed out St John's classes have been ranked highly, but those rankings have not led to results. Specifically, saying Creighton's recruiting classes the last several years have not been ranked highly is poor logically because:

1) Creighton was in the MVC, not the BIg East. CU's classes better have been worse when in the MVC or else that means everyone in the BE is horrible at recruiting or that the MVC is better than the BE (which it certainly is not).
2) Creighton is currently tied for first place in the BIg East. If recruiting was all that mattered, Creighton should be in last place.

Looking forward to next year is what losers do. It is what Cubs fans (I know because I am one). It used to be what Red Sox fans did. I'm enjoying this season immensely and will worry about next season after this one is over.

Only one guys said CU could never compete. Edrick

He is the only one.

Everyone else was having a discussion about how they see the future and exchanging opinions.

Great post, especially the part about enjoying this season (although that's much easier when your team is doing well). This board seems to have a few loud, neurotic, doomsday posters who can't seem to enjoy the present. Looking forward to Sunday.

Very excited for this game. Wondering how our guards will be able to limit Christon and how are bigs will be able to handle Stainbrook.

Wondering how Xavier will be able to handle a hostile atmosphere they have not experienced yet this season.

Creighton and Xavier have had some excellent games in the past as non-conference foes and this game should be no different.

The winner should be ranked next week.

I'm hoping for a great game. It's a win-win for X. A road win would be huge, but a loss would do minimal damage at this point. There is much more pressure on Creighton.

Of course Creighton will "compete." Does that mean they're going to be a top 2-3 team and compete to win the Big East every year? Probably not. I see them making the tourney more years than not, finishing in the 4-6 range most of the time, with a top 3 finish and a bottom 4 finish (they'll be a down year every now and again) sprinkled throughout.

My main concern with Creighton is Big McDermott. He was pretty terrible at Iowa St, and its not like the Big XII was world beaters then (outside KU of course). The question will be, does his style and recruiting fit better in a mid-tier conference a la MVC, or was Iowa St just an aberration? Cause I think this league will be much much closer to the Big XII than it will ever be to MVC where he enjoyed great success being a big fish in a smaller pond.
