what's amazing now is the worst case scenario..
2 regular season games
1 BET game
1 NCAA game

say 20 ppg in those 4 games- 80 points.

3024 points- or #7 all time
even that would be incredible now....

best case scenario
2 regular season games
3 BET games
6 NCAA games

say 30 ppg in those 11 games- 330 points
3274 points- or #2 all time

to me tonight could be special. If he gets 30- he would pass Danny Manning and Oscar Robertson. 2 incredible names.

Doug will likely now finish in the top 5 scorers in NCAA history. To not have this incredible leader in the top 5 best of all time in the BIG East simply is silliness. Creighton beat every team in the league at least once and dominated inside and out.

Why don't we leave this thread alone until season's end?

I don't mind hyping up his accomplishments. He was the best thing to happen to the Big East this year. He was the biggest story in college basketball this year. Keep scoring McDermott!

As someone who has been to every Big East Conference tournament since its inception, and as a Villanova fan, I have no problem saying that McDermott will go down as having one of the greatest years ever in Big East basketball history. Had he played for three or four years, he would rank right up there with Ewing, Mullin, etc.

But the most important point is being missed.......remember that he still has yet to play in the BE tourney. If he tears it up like the Pearl, Jerry Mac and Kemba, the New York media hype machine will take over and no one will have to worry about his legacy, trust me on that.

Berry won the Wooden Award but he isn't really thought about as a Big East great the wasMullin, Ewing or Ray Allen are because he only played two years. He is only brought up when talking about St. John's greats. Iverson is never really named in a short l ist of Big East greats. Same reason. McDermott will be mentioned as one of the greats that has played in the big East but when there is a general discussion of all time greats, his name won't be on the short list. Even Melo isn't on that list.

The only way McDermott gets mentioned as one of the Big East greats is if he atleast reaches the Final Four, might have to do even more than that....

There's a video from practice today with McDermott shooting threes. Made 13 in a row at one point.

really don't see him viewed anywhere near guys like Mullin, Ewing, Washington, etc. Played 1 year and didn't win the Big East title or advance really far in the NCAA tournament.

To use a term that was used a lot a few weeks ago, he's not on the Big East Mt Rushmore. Nothing against him, he's going to be viewed at least as a top 100 college player of all time. Just given the conference shift, won't be viewed as highly in the Big East(may be a top 10 player in the MVC quite frankly though!)
