I honestly have never understood why Richmond has been considered. They have a small (by Big East standards) arena (7,200), with little basketball prestige. They have been to just 9 NCAA Tournaments, with just 3 in the past 15 years. They have never advanced past the Sweet 16. The only positive is that they are a private university, and their endowment (over $2 billion) is really high - but until they pump that back into their athletics program, it won't matter.

I know some have mentioned Boston University as a possible future expansion candidate. Tonight, they host Illinois in the NIT and there are probably less than 500 people there.

Heh, I thought you meant you were at the game tonight.

I actually went to Agganis Arena for a hockey game a couple of years ago. The place is gorgeous, and easy to get to right on the subway line (above ground at that point on Commonwealth Ave). The place was packed vs UNH, even in the ring of luxury boxes. On tv it looks small and pretty dark, but in person it seemed really big and there was a wide concourse. Too bad BU hoops draws no one. Would be easily packed with Friar fans.

I agree, the arena looks pretty nice, kinda small (7500 capacity) but it has luxury boxes etc...BU is a hockey school though, multiple national titles.

Dayton AND Saint Louis won today. BIG congrats to them.

It will be interesting if VCU wins. IMO, they need to advance to the Sweet 16 (or farther) to try and pull ahead of (what I perceive) Dayton for #12. I think the institutional fit is too much to overlook.

Ehhh, unless one of them goes to the Final Four or better, I don't think what they do this year will accelerate anyone from getting an invite for next year IMO.
