Love them or hate them or somewhere inbetween, you have to hand it to Notre Dame. Not too many programs that can "tell" an entire conference what to do:

"Well, this COVID thing is screwing everything up. We can't play as an independent this year. We are joining you as a full conference member for one year. You'll like it. You know you will."

As someone else said, ND might join the ACC for this year, but it would be very bad for them to do it past this season. The advantage they have (if they have one any longer) is that they are a national brand and can play any team in the US, anywhere. Join the ACC as a full member and they've become just another team.

I don't know what to make of UHartford. Had some family members look at colleges over the last few years and they took tours of Fairfield, QU, and Sacred Heart - all three have attractive campuses (in differing ways) with their own selling points. I couldn't come up with a reason they should go look at Hartford though. I suppose that's the core of the problem.

Big East probably hangs out on the sidelines for this one, which is just fine. I guess be ready to catch a stray Big 12 little brother if one shakes loose, but that seems unlikely to happen. I suppose there's nobody currently in the AAC that would get a look if they got stranded, assuming Temple and Cincy get blocked by Nova and X.

Texas & OU contacted SEC about leaving Big 12 & SEC has interest in both schools, sources told @Stadium. “This will take some time but there is interest on both sides,” source said. UT planning to notify Big 12 it doesn’t want to extend grant of rights

Why now?
