The Big East tournament WAS an event. Didn't you notice ESPN holding a wake for it last spring?

The tournament is starting over. You can't simply ignore the fact that those Notre Dame, UConn, Syracuse, etc fans won't be attending any more.

If this doesn't qualify as trolling on a Big East forum, what does?

Trolling? I'm laughing at ESPN for their ridiculous and self-serving posturing last spring and scoffing at them for their shabby treatment of the C7 who were moving forward to soldier on and maintain the traditions and founding principles of the original Big East.

Fact is the Big East is starting over. Nothing will be handed to it, which is how it was even in the beginning. When I say that the tournament was an event, I don't mean to disparage the even that it is to become. But it's not there yet. It will have to earn it's new stature. It will take time and it will take big wins to carve out new traditions.

Every knowledgeable BE fan has a healthy respect the challenges ahead, but most that come here seem to post with a focus on the opportunities to succeed, while you seem to be a constant champion of impending doom and pessimism. To be clearer, I would probably stand out on an ACC board similarly to what I am accusing you of here. I would have plenty of sincere & well-founded doubts to share about the negative ramifications of realignment to the ACC. I'd probably also draw similar criticism. But I would at least have had the gall to clearly state my loyalties & would've registered under a user name that made those loyalties clear to all.

I've noticed a decent number of non-BE fans who post here and they make their school's or conference's case transparently. If your handle had cuse in it or husky or IrishBill I would view your posts as rival provocations (hata-aid) and we could have at it, which would be cool. Instead you post over the top critiques and back-handed compliments to the BE & it's fans, while deftly attempting to side-step accusations of trolling. Any HLoH member that checks your posts will see the continuous pattern of negatively slanted comments I'm talking about.

Btw, the Big East isn't starting over...it has started over already & is moving forward quite shrewdly with the FS1 Tie-ins & 2014 recruiting (who cares about preseason rankings).

Hall, I find it odd that you're trying to make this personal instead of having fun playing with whatever ideas are put out on the board. I find it interesting to look at problems and to try to figure out how to solve them. Apparently you want posters to be "Pollyanna" and just post positive things.

I've probably been a Big East fan longer than you've been. I went to UConn to grad school and settled in CT. UConn's the local franchise and I'm a college hoops nut, so I go to their games for the enjoyment of the sport. But I also paid 8 years of tuition to Providence College and make it a point to get to see PC every year as well. I love the Big East and what it's done for college basketball in the East. But I don't have a need to just be a booster or a cheerleader.

I'm not a fan do another conference who's just trolling on a BE board. The Big East is the only conference I care about. That's why I'm here. I'm beyond the point of needing to be a fan of one school to enjoy the sport, but to the extent that I'm a UConn fan, I hate the fact that they're in the AAC and can't get out of it fast enough to please me. So, I don't come here as a fan of another conference.

I don't either. But most people pretty much got that one.

I like good basketball, and that's what this Big East will bring us. I'm not for a second going to say otherwise.
Big East Basketball is what it's always been. Great competition nightly.
If the Atlantic 10 didn't suck, why is everyone looking for the exits?
There is a reason why the A-10 left a team in the Central Time Zone...SLU, your move.

Notice that the Big East Media Guide lists ONLY the BE tourney winners as the previous BE champs; it doesn't mention who won the regular season in each of the past BE seasons

Not making it personal, making an observation about your comments. Personal, is saying you've been a fan longer than me. I'm pretty sure that's true but there are pitt & syracuse fans who have have been BE fans longer than me too, but what does that matter now that they are the enemy? You say you love the big east but you criticize nearly everything. I really don't know why that's a newsworthy statement to you, I could make a greatest hits of your posts that shows not love but doubts & reservations (except when it comes to Uconn never coming back to the BE). The only issue I rtake with that is you're trying to violate the "fan code"...which is you offer out plenty of criticism but you don't take any risk with your positions because you don't support a specific program in the league. Even though I agree very little with Gumby usually at least he has loyalties to a program that he has to defend while criticizing the rest of the teams in the league. So when he says something about SHU I can go back at him about Nova. That's usually what keeps fans from getting to personal. But you defend very little about the BE, yet you don't hold out on the pessimism.

Btw, saying you have strong ties to Uconn is great but this is a BE forum not an AAC forum. Most Uconn/AAC fans are not BE fans at the moment for the same reasons you mentioned (they want to be in the ACC or elsewhere). You are also not a Friar fan, so why make it seem like you're not a rival fan (Yukon?) and just have at it. It's the non-committal to friend or foe thing that I just don't get. If someone with a uconn tag posted half the things you did, the board would probably go into white blood cell mode. But we won't know because they don't seem to post here for some reason. Don't mind if they did but I'm sure it would get heated often.

By making it clear that you're a SLU fan (IIRC) and not a "league fan only" you leave yourself open to fair give & take when posting...not just "gives".

To me the conference tourney champion always trumps the reg season champion. The tourney is held to see who's champion of the conference, the reg season merely providing seeding. Maybe it was on purpose but I think in terms of the league the tourney champion is the one that matters, that team won the conference.
Let's Go FRIARS!

Love the 6 year comment!

Paid for 2 daughters to go to PC. To make us even more of a PC centric household, my 3rd daughter, who went to BC, married a PC guy. On top of that, one of his brothers went to PC and he married a PC girl. Always a safe gift to give one of the grand kids a PC sweatshirt. And always lots of PC folks around at family events.
