I guess I'm just not used to Providence blowing out opponents, as they often play to their competition, so to see them do that recently has me thinking this could be a good game.
What I talked about before this game was essentially that Providence in Kenpom has hovered between 65 and 81 since returning from their exempt tournament, and they only popped above that for a couple games in the early season. Well, after the Butler blowout, they jumped from 65 to 49. Okay, it's just one game, but man that's a jump. Then they followed it up with another blowout and jumped to 42. I watched some of these games and they looked good too, not just playing weaker teams who were having bad games. So, I thought this UConn game would be interesting. Well, Kenpom projected a 6-point loss for them...they won by 12 just now! Generally big moves in Kenpom can be expected when a team deviates a lot from a game's expectations. We will see another big jump after an 18-point swing. This Providence team really seems to have woken up and it's cool to watch.
And one thing to emphasize is that Cooley teams seem to consistently outperform their Kenpom ranking! So, whatever ranking I see for them, I always make a little adjustment in my head. Well, even Kenpom makes this team look pretty good.
Edit: Providence now at #28 in Kenpom
