We went from 24-8 in Barone's final year to 9-19, 8-18 and 7-22 the next three years, finishing 6th, 8th and dead last in a MVC that was at that time about 25th in conference strength, if that.

Wait......you hired Keno Davis??????

Obviously the presidents disagreed. Too bad they didn't listen to you, as I'm sure you're much more attuned to who fits our conference.
What's ironic is that this is coming from a DePaul fan who's team was nothing but a punching bag for years at the bottom of the Big East.

Perspective is the big key. We all knew we were not a top 50 team. 9 of our 12 losses are to top 50 teams. We are also 3 shots away from being 3-4 in the conference. These 3 shots fall (or don't fall), and we have 9 losses, 7 of which to top 50 teams, and 2 more top 50 wins. We got some great luck last year. This year, we are paying for it.

We are an inexperienced team and you are going to lose some close games, and you are going to lose some games you should not.

As for roster, our recruiting is ahead of where we should be. We have a lot of talent sitting out this year, and a lot of talent coming in next year. It will take us 3 or 4 years, but we will get there.

Kudos to everyone in this league this year. Being down, when everyone else is up is disappointing, but it sure is fun to watch everyone else do well.

Back to the question itself, I've thought about it for a few days and I think I've settled on 1 and 3. Doug was such a huge part of our success and his presence made everyone on the floor so much better. If we were to have Wragge, Manigat, and Gibbs back, I don't believe that their going to do nearly as much scoring wise than with Doug. They couldn't really create their own shots and and could be keyed on by defenses just like the shooters we have now. What Creighton desperately lacks is drivers or consistent interior threats that make defenses respect that part of the game and open up space for our shooters. With a roster full of shooters and an inability to get open shots (I mean really open shots) that's a big challenge.
Hopefully next year we have the horses (we're bringing in 7 Big East recruits - by that I mean 7 guys who were specifically recruited after the Big East move - for reference we only have 2 guys playing big minutes who were recruited for the Big East, Kreklow and Gilmore, who just isn't ready yet).

Regardless of what team I cheer for, I think 10 out of 10 times any fan of this league would have preferred to add Gonzaga over Creighton. And while my team has been a punching bag of late we still have more Final Fours, NCAA Appearances, NCAA Wins, NIT Appearances, NIT Wins, and All Americans than the Big East's current Sisters of the Poor.

Stupid comment. And if you polled the other BE programs and asked them if they'd rather have Gonzaga or DePaul they'd say Gonzaga every time as well.

Really? 10 out of 10? I don't think so. Just look at the reception we had on here when we joined. This is the first time I've seen someone say they would take Gonzaga over us.
Also, the presidents don't give a damn what fans think anyway, the fact is that Gonzaga could have been invited but they chose us instead.

Frankly, the only votes that mattered were those of the university presidents and they voted 7 out of 7 on Xavier, Butler, and Creighton.
Nebraska by birth, Creighton by choice.

Don't take the bait from this troll. I think most of these responses are pretty much on track. We don't have a go to guy and we would have 2-4 wins so far if we did. Mac is a great coach. Chatman has dropped off after the preseason (which I didn't expect), Hanson hasn't shown the promise we saw last year (though I think he still will prove it), and Zierden getting hurt (again) doesn't help. However, Mac did recruit well for the transition. The two transfers in PG Watson ( who was top 100 out of hs and at Boston U ) and Cole Huff (transfer from Nevada) were both targeted by 10-20 top BCS teams. They have proven themselves on the court and wanted to play at the next level. As stated, we got 3 recruits coming in next year including top 50-60 player in 6"11 center Patton from Omaha. He blew up in the AAU circuit but CU had him committed early. Our returning guys with Hanson, Hegner, Zierden are solid and we will look a lot differnt next year with their growth and the transfers. Even in this tough year, I love watching the Big East games on Fox Sports 1! Knowing these teams makes it so much more fun to watch them when they come to town.

CU will be fine and as more recruits see what Creighton and Omaha have to offer. I think things look good. The staff realized the jump up would be tough for a bit, but no one thought it would be like this for the year.

Didn't realize this. Seems pretty unusual to redshirt a Top 100 but I'm sure they had their reasons.

Keno Davis used to redshirt a lot at PC. It worked out great with Kadeem Batts. The reason I don't love it now is because of the 5th year transfer rule (not saying this will happen with Harrell, but it's something for coaches to think about).
