Leave a light on for UConn (4 more yrs and they are out of the conference of americans. Whether that is a football 5 invite or parking fb in the mac and coming to the big east)

Whatever works to add gonzaga. (byu as a bridge is nice. San Fran? San deigo? St Mary's?)

Re-evaluate Dayton in 2018. Have they been a consistent contender in the A10? Have they won more tourney games? If so, consider them. If not, just say no.

But don't expand for the sake of expanding. Sorry UMass, vcu and richmond.

And most importantly, absent of uconn and/or gonzaga, don't do anything unless we benefit, and don't do anything for a few years.

Keep in mind this is out of the box -

We want to keep the league basketball focused, urban, private. Reinforcing the east would be nice...
(go from 10-->12)

Boston University
why?
Boston, academic prestige, good arena, great endowment
Why its out of the box?
BU has problems drawing any fanbase to their stadium, and they are currently only competitive in the Patriot League. With a new big name coach a la Larry Brown, would the kids show for games in the Big East?

New York University
Why?
would actually give us a big chunk of the NY market, academic prestige, great endowment, could use Madison Square Garden as home, gives us another league game in NYC, natural rivalries with St. John's/Seton Hall, fills the Garden for the Big East Tourney, instant marquee member of the Big East
Why its out of the box?
NYU would have to upgrade from Div III to Div I., a process that takes 5? years. Would an invitation to the Big East be enough to commit them?

Just For Fun Idea:

1. Call Phil Jackson. I think he's farting around with the Knicks right now.
2. Ask him what it would take to get him to accept the DePaul job.
3. Give him anything he wants to accept the job.
4. Tell him that Billy Donovan is also interested, so we need an answer by 5pm tonight.

Another Just For Fun Idea:

At the Big East Tournament in MSG:
On the Tuesday night, the night before the 8 vs 9 and 7 vs 10 games:
Have 5 events:

7pm: 3-Point Shooting Contest.
7:30pm: Dunk Contest.
8pm: Skills Competition.

During this 90 minute time slot, on the other side of the court, have a concert featuring Earth, Wind and Fire, Arianna Grande, Naughty by Nature and Justin Timberlake.

8:30pm: Freshman Showcase, featuring Big East freshmen... or if allowed per NCAA rules, showcase of high school seniors who have committed to Big East schools, maybe mini-3-on-3 games.

9:30pm: Alumni Games. Not sure of the format, but imagine 3-player teams of Shammgod-Gomes-Thorpe (coached by Pete Gillen) vs Ewing-Iverson-Broadnax (coached by JT Jr) vs Korver-Wragge-Benoit Benjamin (coached by Tony Barone) vs Dehere-Karnishavis-Callandrillo (coached by Raftery or Carlesimo)... anyway, not sure of the format or invitees... could be random past rosters (the 97 Friars vs the 90 Musketeers, both teams coached by Pete Gillen).

Somehow bribe Notre Dame and add SLU.

Gonzaga + BYU

UConn + UMass

Outside-the-box expansion idea? Go X-Men: Days of Future Past-style on Mike Tranghese. Have his present-consciousnesses sent back in time to his former body in 2002 (pre-ACC raid #1). Have him convince Duke, North Carolina, NC State and Wake Forest that the ACC and Tobacco Road is on the brink of implosion. Add the ACC schools to keep the football schools (Syracuse, Pittsburgh, Miami, Boston College, etc.) happy, and still add DePaul, Marquette, Xavier, Creighton and Butler to create a mega-conference for elite basketball.
