BRACKET MATRIX - NCAA TOURNAMENT SEEDS - UPDATED JANUARY 1, 2015

BIG EAST

2 - Villanova
5 - St. John's
8 - Seton Hall
8 - Georgetown
9 - Butler
9 - Providence
10 - Xavier

OTHER TEAMS

2 - Gonzaga
4 - Wichita State
4 - Virginia Commonwealth
8 - Dayton

What you need to do is save this sheet and review it in March to see how accurate it is. All 'experts' claim that they nail their projections at 95% or such, but they base that on their last pre-Selection Sunday picks. No one looks back at January 1 to see how well they picked the field.

And nor should they.

This is meant to be fluid. If Villanova loses 8 straight, it won't be in the tournament. If Seton Hall runs the table, it will get much higher than an 8 seed. Half of the relevant data has yet to be decided.

If Dayton makes the tourney, Miller deserves coach of the year. That being said, the A 10 is awful this year.

1 of Lee Trevino's most famous quotes was about things that dont't last, "pros putting for pars and dogs chasing cars", you can add UD's '14-15 team to that. Since the 2 bigs left UD has been out rebounded by 7 per game. Over that 3 game stretch though UD has shot the ball resulting in a 3-0 record but that trend won't last forever so you can add that to Lee's quote.

This makes my point from the other thread that the parity could mean a lot of bids and a lot of disappointment when the tourney starts. This means that we probably lose 5 of the 7 on the 1st weekend. Better off having 3-4 teams separate from the pack.

Parity could also make 7 bids unachievable. As of today, the BE has six RPI Top 50 teams (actualy, six teams with RPI Rankings of # 41 or better) and six teams are now 1-1 in conference play.

RPI Rankings: http://www.udpride.com/images/rpi.htm

BE Standings: http://espn.go.com/mens-college-basketb ... conference

It is hard to believe that RPI # 25 St. John's are two games behind RPI # 208 DePaul after the first week of conference play.

As a Seton Hall fan, I would sign up for this draw in a HEARTBEAT. Opening with St. Mary's in Seattle is actually a really tough draw because they'll definitely have the crowd on their side, but it's certainly winnable. Then comes by favorite part- that 2nd round rematch with Wichita State! Bring it. Then, we'll deal with UVA if we get there. They're actually the 1 seed I would most want to play to set up the elite 8 game with the Butler/Providence winner.
