The thing is for a team like Georgetown- can't expect to win both @ Kansas and vs Michigan St. Even the best teams split those games a lot. Same with Nova- they split with Kansas and Syracuse. DePaul losing to Illinois St would not have changed Xavier from being in the PIG. Same with all of those Seton Hall losses.
Like I said- amongst the top 8-9 conferences, there were only less than 20 teams that didn't go into conference play with fewer than 2 losses. Of the final Ken Pom top 40, only 13 had fewer than 2 losses in OOC play. When good teams play, it is close to a 50/50 proposition. So if you have 4 quality OOC games, the odds are pretty good you will go 2-2 in those 4... So like Georgetown OOC last year- beat VCU and Michigan St- but lost to Oregon and Kansas. 3 of the 4 extremely close games that if replayed could go the other way a lot of times. The Northeastern loss was problematic obviously.
Also would say from what I've seen, the OOC schedules are tougher this year. What we entered the Big East Season last year would be great if we could get it with the upgraded schedules.
