Might I ask why you would want Mack second? Maybe I have just been spoiled by the previous X coaches: Miller, Matta and Prosser. But Mack made the Sweet 16's with Milllers players. Since then, he hasn't done much.

I just like something about him. His teams are always tough, he always seems to be winning. 21+ wins in 4 of 5 years, 10+ conference wins 4/5 yrs, ncaas 4/5 years. and in 3 of those 4 years got a win in the tourney. And he doesn't do that by recruiting the 5* players. He does it by recruiting to his system and winning games that way. Always seems to have a couple good guards too and I've always favored the guards a little bit. Maybe he gets an edge for me over some of the other BE coaches like GTIII who I have had a chance to see head to head with more.

Are you not happy with Mack as the coach?

Me personally, no.

1. His coaching style. He uses a very rigid offense and defensive schemes. In my opinion, this tenses the players up and its not fun to watch.
2. His demeanor. He has a "tough" guy persona and doesn't seem to be a very likeable person.
3. Incidents while coaching. Transfers have increased and we have had multiple incidents: Crosstown Fight, Dez Well's sexual assault.

That all being said, this rookie class is all his and is his chance to make a name for himself. If we aren't making deep runs by their 3rd year I hope he is gone.

Well, he would've inherited players and recruits from Sean Miller. But hes been here long enough that the whole roster is all his.

True story:
I got roped into coaching my son's U-12 soccer team. I wore my "DePaul" t-shirt to practice tonight. A father from one of the other teams came over to me, pointed to my shirt, and said "this is the year they turn it around... their coach is an outstanding man and coach..." I looked at his face and realized he wasn't joking, so I said "yeah, Purnell has won everywhere else... good young team..."

This is in Rhode Island, by the way. Thought it was interesting. Glad my shirt got the Blue Demons some attention... I bought it on sale last year... my plan was to buy shirts from each Big East school... my younger son has a Georgetown hoodie and gets compliments.

I'd go Jay Wright and then Ed Cooley.

Give me a break. Those are your personal opinions. He has taken Xavier to 2 Sweet Sixteens in 4 years. He is recruiting at a higher level than Sean MIller ever did at XAvier.

Sean Miller had incidents and transfers too. Also, Mack only had Crawford for 1 year and Semaj for 2 years. It's tough to lose all-american caliber players early to the NBA.

Likeable? Who cares. Mack has been a great representative for Xavier in his time as head coach.

That said, I would take Jay Wright without a doubt.

True, they are just my own opinion. But number 2 and 3 aside, I simply don't like his coaching style.

It is just my opinion, but his offense is like watching a computer simulation of basketball. There is almost no rhythm and he doesn't seem to trust his players.

You are blaming Mack for the Crosstown brawl and Dez Wells! Unbelievable. And transfers are rampant everywhere. As for you first and second points, well, wow.

My answer to the question is Jay Wright then Cooley. Having noted that, I wouldn't give Chris Mack up for anyone.

The two items I looked at are 1) getting the most out of the talent on the team, and maybe more important 2) making in-game adjustments. Several 'prominent Big East Coaches', in my opinion, are not very good at #2.

Cooley is tops on my list. To me he got a lot of mileage out of a team that some might consider a 'one man team' and he showed he was able to adjust to what the opponents were giving him.

P.S., I wouldn't have voted for Coach Miller even if I could have voted for my team's coach. He is young and has promise, but he wouldn't be on my top three list for either 1) or 2) today.
