As a Xavier fan, I've had nothing but respect for Butler. I just don't feel any BE rival, yet. It's hard to find anything close to what X and Cincy have. If anything, I do have a chip against the whole C7. There was so much talk about the 3 new schools struggling, against tougher competition. Maybe SJU could be Xavier's new Dayton. Seriously, I just want this conference to have a huge year. Here is to a 117-13 Non-Con!!!

That seems a bit unfair. We are both in the Big East now so I don't see why it can't be a real rivalry.

It just needs more time and more bad blood. You might be surprised who ends up as your rival. It's not always the team you'd expect.

PC vs Nova is in no way a rivalry. We lost all our rivalries with the transition. PC St Johns seems like a possible thing coming down the pipe due to overlapping recruiting.

They have been playing for quite some time, alternating home games for the past 7(?) years if I'm not mistaken plus all the years they were in the same conference. But it does lack the certain punch that the more heated rivalries have (minus the water fountain incident). If Butler could ever win a damn game in Cintas it could grow to be pretty good though.

How long ago were they in the same conference? Non-con games don't usually get the rivalry juices flowing like conference games. When there is something on the line and you play twice year thats when the bad blood gets flowin'.

Quite some time if I'm not mistaken. I'm not disagreeing with your assessment that it needs to grow, just that there are some nascent seeds planted for a nice rivalry.

For instance I attended Xavier for a short time, and multiple profs/students asked me if I thought it was a good idea to wear my butler gear in public

We were in the old MCC with X for a bunch of years in the 1980's and mid 1990's

Most of the current players weren't even alive then and most of the alumni weren't either. X already has two big rivals, I don't think Butler is on that list. 20+ years ago is way to long ion the world of sports.

Huh?

There are many alumni from the 1980's and 1990's, still alive, and are the main contributors to the athletic fundraisers. Respect your elders!!

I'm not disagreeing the there isn't a rivalry there. There isn't one of significance. I would much rather win the Crossroad's Classic game then any single Big East game. But that's me, an alumni born too early.
