I just can't see ESPN giving an award to a rapist. But maybe I am giving them too much credit.

Do you actually think he is a rapist?

If you do, then yes, I think that is a legitimate argument.

I, however, don't believe he is a rapist. So, I guess, i should have qualified my statement with that.

I know many people would disagree, but I do think he is a rapist. Maybe I am biased as I grew up with mostly sisters; but if you are accused of sexual assault, then you are guilty in my book. That being said, I don't fault the law for not prosecuting him as you need evidence etc. But by my own standards, he is guilty.

How can you not love this kid? The Bluejay is the bar just off campus that lots of students visit.

Patrons watching the NBA draft last Thursday night at the Blue Jay Bar & Grill got a pleasant surprise after McDermott was officially announced as a Chicago Bull.
McDermott called the Blue Jay and ordered a keg for the entire bar, and a shot for anyone who wanted one, according to Bobby Matthews of the Blue Jay. Matthews said there were about 100 people in the bar watching the draft.

Classic, and classy, gesture. Shots are not cheap. Then again, McDermott can afford it.
Nebraska by birth, Creighton by choice.

That is pretty interesting. Does this non existent level of burden of proof apply to all accusations? Or just when a female accuses a male of rape?

So if you had a daughter, and she claimed she was raped but couldn't prove it in court. You wouldn't believe her? Like I said, I am not saying he is legally liable, doesn't change my personal judgement, deal with it.

See Duke lacrosse team. The plain and simple truth is that not every girl/woman who accuses someone of rape is telling the truth. I have four sisters, a wife and a daughter. If one of them said someone raped her, I would believe her because I know them and know their character. However, extrapolating that into your postulate that the mere fact some college co-ed living half a country away accuses a celebrity athlete of raping her means he is a rapist, is illogical at best. You may know your sisters well enough that you would believe them, but you have zero clue what kind of person his accuser is. She might be telling the truth, or she might not be.

Unfortunate as it may be I suspect football will win out over basketball. This despite the fact that McDermott is the better player and much the better human being. I read an article about 4 years ago which stated that although many more games were televised in basketball than football the football drew over three times the total viewers. I suspect that is still true. If so the football player always has an advantage in this type of award.

In any case I will be pulling for McDermott. He is the better man without question.

Unless Winston is sent to the slammer between now and the ESPYs, there is no way he loses unfortunately.

Nice surprise....I guess it wasn't part of the TV broadcast though? I wonder if it's because he didn't show up? I would think male college athlete of the year would deserve some TV time.

According to the Bluejay Underground post, they didn't show it because he wasn't there.
