He makes over $850,000.

That is about to go up.

Mack is a Xavier graduate and Cincinnati native. He won't stay at Xavier forever; he'll consider legitimate offers, because he is a talent with ambition, but he isn't leaving for Wake or Cal.

Here we are again, with one of the kind of topics that help us survive the off-season.

Surprised how many fellow Xavier fans are actually confident in him staying....

I am fine either way. He does a good enough job but imo he isn't the same caliber as Matta, Miller or maybe even Prosser.

Can't help but wonder if the reason his name keeps coming up with open jobs is that his agent or rep is trying to get some leverage to get a raise. Either that or he feels under appreciated. Xavier needs to step up and pay the guy or else they can expect to keep seeing these rumors.

Xavier is a better job than Cal for basketball. Hope he stays.

I think Wake Forest was where he was pulling the leverage card, not sure why he would need to pull that twice

I'll never understand this view. I would agree he is not among the best coaches Xavier has ever had (at this point) - but he has done very well in some tough circumstances. And if he leaves now then Xavier will end up with a big hole in their recruiting. Many of the recruits would ask out of their LOI and most of the time schools grant that when there is a coaching change…. and they have 5 players coming in...

I suppose it's possible that the recruits would stay if an assistant coach was promoted, but it's hard to predict what the AD would do. The AD, Greg Christopher has only been on the job one year and it would seem plausible he would want to choose 'his guy' rather than a Mack assistant.

That said, I think Mack will stay due to family considerations (both he and his wife have family in the Cincinnati area) and a bright future in terms of players. If the recruiting class lives up to the hype it seems likely that he'll have better offers in the future.

Sean Miller (and Matta) said they were staying. Miller turned down the big money and woke up the next day with another million on his pillow. Hard to pass up.

Cal pkg would have to be at least 3x as large as X 's to cover difference in cost of living. Bay Area $$$$$, Cincy is very affordable part of USA. I wouldn't even want to wager a guess on what Indian Hill type property in Bay Area would cost. What's Indian Hill from Dana ave...10 min? If Mack leaves X it's because he's unhappy not because of Cal $$'s, this story sounds absurd. Good affordable Catholic schools all over Cincy for his kids and on and on.

It would be nice if a Big East coach showed some loyalty. We are still being treated like a mid major conference being poached. Cal isn't even a great basketball school like Xavier but because they are a huge state university with a major football team they will be seen as better. Sick of this.
