BYU has a lot of conflicting info on their resume. There's some good but a lot of bad.

Only 3 quality wins. But that SOS of 24 and even better a non-conf SOS of 4. But they have 4 brutal losses. And they just lost a key player to injury, who knows how the committee evaluates that, committee members themselves have said different things.

Meanwhile back to SMU that loss today could be crippling. Non-conf SOS of 291, every year lately it seems the committee makes an example of 1 team based on non-conf schedule, SMU could be the one. Four good wins (all top 30) but those are their only wins in the top 100. 3 hideous losses. I think they're probably in right now but could easily slip out by Sunday.

I must say in the 20-odd years I've been doing bracketology stuff this year is shaping up as one of the most confusing. All these bubble teams look alike, none really stand out positively or negatively. And thus far this week nobody's stepping up to really wow you and absolutely secure a bid.

I'd say Colorado has this week so far.

To be fair, a lot of those games you are talking about happen today in Big Ten, SEC, and ACC.

Top 100 what RPI? In recent memory has an eligible team in the Top 25 ever not made the Big Dance because of a close loss in their conference tournament? I can't think of one, can you?

As a newbie I am beginning to understand there is an underlying hatred for the AAC schools on this board, though I don't understand why, your schools left them, not the other way around. However, lets be realistic - on most of the boards I've ever talked basketball on, RPI is usually reserved for helping weigh teams who aren't ranked and trying to base their worth or not.

It's not as simple as that. The football schools left the Catholic 7 no choice but to leave by adding the only football schools they could in a manner that would have destroyed the basketball product. Basketball was how the Big East made its name, and was the marquee sport for more than half the conference, and the only major sport for at least 7 schools.

The Big East adding Tulane was the last straw. The Catholic 7 were already losing games against ND, Syracuse, Pittsburgh, and Louisville due to conference realignment. UConn was begging for an ACC invitation. All the conference decisions were being driven by football. The conference had tried to add TCU. Temple and Memphis were not brought in because their basketball programs were decent, but because they had football teams. UCF, Tulane, Houston, and SMU were brought in. For a while, Boise State and San Diego State were on their way in for football-only membership. East Carolina was as well before upgrading to all-sports membership after the split. You can only take so much abuse before you decide it's time to head out on your own.

The football schools wrecked arguably the best college basketball conference in existence all for pursuit of mediocre (or ACC, which is the same thing) football. They shat the bed, now they can sleep in it. Seeing an empty FedEx Forum makes me smile. Karma's a bitch.
Al McGuire: "What is this?"
Waiter: "Mr. McGuire, that is a cull lobster. Sometimes when the lobsters are in the tank, they fight. This one lost a claw."
Al McGuire: "Well then take this one away and bring me the winner."
