Hinkle Fieldhouse

The home for Big East hoops

Always wanted to visit Hinkle but it's a bit far from the NYC metro area. One thing I always thought about Hinkle from seeing it on TV is "Wow, those huge pictures of athletes on the walls would distract me if I played there". Maybe it's just me but I feel like it would be distracting lol. Nothing compared to Oregon though where the home court is extremely distracting with "mud" covering the court. I think it should be illegal to totally change a court like that. I bet it has real negative effects on the opponent. When your eyes are trained to see wood grain all your life and you suddenly see a bunch of mud, it must take a bit to adjust.

One of my goals in the next few years is to visit every arena in the Big East, but it'll probably be for non-conference matchups when the tickets are cheaper and I don't have to work as much. East Coast ones should be a bit easier to hit all at once, but I'm really looking forward to experiencing them all.

I really enjoy Hinkle, but like others have said, if you're not willing to get there an hour or so before the game, parking can be very challenging. Concessions and bathrooms should be updated here for next year, but it definitely still won't be as nice as some of the "NBA" type arenas that some of the other schools in the conference play in frequently.

Also, to the Providence fan who was planning a road trip to go see Hinkle this summer, you may want to hold off on those plans, or at least call ahead and see if it will be open when you're planning on swinging through. From what I've been told, a good portion of it is going to be closed to the public (normally you can just walk in during the day without any hassle) because of the renovations. Whether you do go to a game or just stop by during the summer, bring a ball since after the games they let people on the court to shoot around.

That's awesome that they let you shoot around after games! If I brought a ball at MSG (it wouldn't even make it through security) and so much as dribbled it once on the Garden floor, I'd probably be tackled by 4 guards. That would be a dream though to shoot around there.

I just do not get the allure. I've been twice.

I mean, I guess it's nice to visit there once, but I would hate to have my team playing all of its home games every year there.
