Past Big East Tournament Winners

it's funny how the 15-16 team era was so different...

in the 5 years with the double byes etc.
avg champion was 4.40.
avg champ game loser 5.20

in the 20 years before
avg champion 2.70
avg runner up 3.30

To some extent it's a reflection of several things:

1. There were more teams.
2. The league was very deep.
3. The validity of the seedlings was more uncertain in a 16 team league when the vast majority of teams played each other only once.

I'll give you those points. But then I'd say 1 and 3 are now completely gone. 2 is still in play, but because of #3 being gone- the pairings reflect what's happened during the season a lot better.

It's been 14 years for SJ. Would be nice. All I want to see is 1 Big East championship, 1 season ranked most of the time even at #25, and 1 year we make the tourney and advance to at least the Sweet 16.

I realize I may be 6 feet under by the time that happens...if it ever does.

How do you think we feel wishing for a friggin tournament. Things really went downhill for our programs in the last decade. Obviously us more than you. I'm hoping going forward the new conference is a better fit as all the schools have a closer profile than the past incarnation of the league.
