For older SJU fans, Georgetown was a bloodsport back in the 80's. Unfortunately, we haven't held up our end of the rivalry over the last 10+ years. That's why our recent win was so satisfying. Hopefully, the rivalry gets reignited.

I see the potential for a very big rivalry with SHU in the coming years. SHU figures to be competitive with their good recruits coming in. The Whitehead fiasco definitely heated things up already. It will be especially hot if Whitehead turns out to be very good. It's about time the NYC area teams started to be consistently good again. I'm talking Seton Hall, SJ, Stony Brook, Marist, Iona, Hofstra, etc. The big state schools in the country seem to be on a higher level.

I want UConn to come back. They were a solid rival for us. It was nice beating them the last time before the Big East died. Still think they are nuts for not coming to join us.

I've found myself hating Xavier almost as much as I did when I went to butler. Either they're rivals or I'm just jealous. Probably a bit of both

I'd happily let St. John's sweep us every year in exchange for a win over Rutgers and I think most SHU fans would agree with me. The Prudential Center sells out for Seton Hall-Rutgers. Nobody in the Big East comes close to that.

You must be a rather young Pirate! For the tried and true Pirates from the birth of the Big East the rival has always been St. John's. Match-ups with the Johnnies would decide conference championships. Rutgers never belonged in the Big East and should not be heading to the Big 10 either (A10 was a good place for them if they insisted on staying in Division 1 and even the current reincarnation of CUSA where they are now would be worlds better for them), I view them much like St. Peter's.

The Big East tried to destroy the SHU/SJU rivalry because Rutgers needed a rival and since we were both in New Jersey SHU got the poopy end of the stick on that one and were forced to play them twice a year. Now that Rutgers is gone we can renew and rebuild the true rivalry with SJU.
As always, this is Just One Pirate's Opinion!

PC's historical rivals have been BC and UConn. Closest thing at this point is maybe St. John's (mainly related to recruiting battles) but really there isn't one.

Since I respect history, I'll say DePaul only because I feel I have to (the '09 loss still pisses me off. I still shake my head about it when I think about that game)

In the "Old Big East" I'd say Notre Dame for sure, with Lville and Cincy also being notable rivals. I have never looked at the other BE teams (old or new) as a true rivalry.

Going forward, I guess I'd say it'd be Butler with Creighton being a possible second. Xavier as a distant 3rd.

For Xavier, I see Marquette bubbling up to the top of the list, but with much more mutual respect involved as the mutual hatred lathers up (however that works) between the German-Centric Jesuits of Milwaukee versus the German-Centric Jesuits of Zincinnati.

I hope to see a strong rivalry build with Nova.

Overall, I suspect the Allegheny Mountains will have an effect on how these rivalries crystallize over time - geography and the historical ties developed between the C7 will keep some of the eastern rivalries in tact for years.

Beyond all this, UC will remain a primary annual pain in the ass, and UD will hopefully just be dropped completely, given the beaten dog they've become.

The delicious hatred all X fans ( and I do mean all ) have with UD is just too fun. A big reason I hope to see UD some day get an invite.

You're confusing hatred with zero respect. UD's basketball program is terrible, except for its attendance numbers.

You don't need to "hope" about an invite, because one of your fans already has proclaimed that UD is confirmed for the BE already; someone whispered into someone's ear in Dayton about that already.
