Where should Creighton be ranked?

Jay, I think going from unranked to 26th to 17th is a nice jump. Honestly, there's no way in hell they're outside the top 20. I just am not sure if voters will put them ahead of Duke or Iowa or Wisconsin or teams like that. I don't think there's any way they pass Villanova unless voters unfairly destroy Nova for losing that game. Overall resume is still that of a top 10 team for sure.

Creighton should be top 15 8 days from now. Can't see CU losing home games against SJU or DePaul, and you'd have momentum. Will be in the 12-19 range.

I think CU clearly passes 25 OU, 24 BAY, 22 KSU, 17 OSU, 16 ISU and 13 UMass. Pittsburgh, Saint Louis, Duke, Cincinnati, Wisconsin, Iowa and Kentucky are also in play.

The question is, will the voters see us as legit or as a novelty?

If our ranking ends in 'teen' I will be satisfied. Personally I would rather have kick ass computer numbers and a rotten ranking than vice versa.

If Creighton enters the AP poll this week at #18, they could move up to #10 in a couple of weeks. This week, we only have one game - St John's at home. Win and we move up for next week. That week, we only have one game all week again - DePaul at home. Win and the Jays could be near #10 pretty soon.
Nebraska by birth, Creighton by choice.

The fact that Creighton is unranked is ridiculous. I agree with their fans. I could understand if they were still in the MVC losing a game and getting knocked out. But not in the Big East.

Why worry about the polls? The committee will be looking at RPI and various power ratings. The polls won't be a factor at all.

Real Time RPI has Villanova #6, Creighton #10, Xavier #28, and Providence #47.
RPI Forecast has them finishing the season at Villanova #5, Creighton #9, Xavier #33, and Providence #49.

Two different ways of calculating it, but pretty much the same results.

On the power rankings . . .

Sagarin has Creighton #6, Villanova #12, Xavier #28? and Providence #46.
Team Rankings has Creighton #5, Villanova #7, Xavier #29, and Providence #43.

Again 2 different ways of calculating power ratings, but pretty much the same results. These are the kinds of tools the committee will be using, not polls which are meaningless and measure nothing but opinions - and usually poorly informed opinions at that.

Agree 100% - the only think rankings do is get your highlights shown more on TV and your scores/articles more exposure online, which may help recruiting. The RPI is much more important in the big picture, and we're looking pretty darn good there.

The NCAA Selection Committee Manual doesn't totally agree with you.

Here is what is says "Among the resources available to the committee are complete box scores, game summaries and notes, pertinent information submitted on a team's behalf by its conference, various computer rankings, injury reports, head-to-head results, chronological results, Division I results, non-conference results, home, away and neutral results, rankings, polls and the NABC regional advisory committee rankings."

Here is the primary computer rankings the NCAA looks at http://www.ncaa.com/rankings/basketball-men/d1/ncaa-mens-basketball-rpi

Seth Davis also put NEBRASKA at #26. There is not another person on the face of the earth who would consider that a legitimate opinion, even with the delusional fan base Nebraska has.

Yes, the polls are available to them as the manual says. But have you ever heard a spokesman for the committee say that a team was seeded in a certain spot based on the polls? Never.

And why would they? Decisions are based on performance and polls tell them nothing about performance. They tell us about perception.

Moreover, polls only rank the top 25. The most important decisions involve whom to eliminate, which is normally involving teams ranked in the high 40's and low 50's. Even if they look at "other teams getting votes," there are so few votes involved for teams ranked that low as to be meaningless.
