he and lavin should be an unbeatable pair as they seem the perfect yin and yang

One thing to remember about Keady is he kind of fell apart last 5 years at Purdue
2001 17-15 NIT
2002 13-18
2003 19-11 NCAA 2nd rd
2004 17-14 NIT
2005 7-21

I think you are kind of remembering him from the 90's- but he slipped badly last 4-5 years at Purdue. 3 years before that period- 2 sweet 16's and an elite 8.

Will Gregg Marshall be the next coach at St John's? It would certainly be in his wheelhouse. Big stage, lots of money and all kinds of recruiting options. He would be a great get for SJU. He also see the writing on the wall for the MVC. There is nothing there to be excited about.

He'll have better options. SJ won't be the top opening, imo.

I have a really hard time believing Marshall would leave Wichita State for the Johnnies. I have to imagine ACC teams will be alllllll over him given his roots in the southeast. SEC as well. Honestly, if South Carolina or Georgia Tech called (and both may be looking for new coaches), I have a hard time seeing Marshall leaving for SJU over those two programs. Heck, he might think Wichita is a better option until a truly great program opens up, much like Mark Few and Shaka Smart.

What's Lavin making? What's his buyout?

If Marshall can win at St Johns which I think he can, it would be a huge story. Gregg will eat that up. I agree leaving Wichita could be tough for him. They treat him very good well down there but with the Valley looking soooo bad he might to get out.

Lavin is going nowhere. He has two years left on his contract and he is not getting fired after this season regardless of the result. I believe he makes 1.6 million. St. John's would not hire another head coach from within the conference (just responding to the McDermott comment). When Norm was fired the NYC press was throwing out Rick Pitino as a candidate due to his NY ties. Although Rick would not have taken it if offered, St. John's President had stated that St. John's views the Big East member schools as business partners and would not seek to hire a sitting head coach in any sport from any member school. The team is certainly disappointing this year, but Lavin is going to get more time and probably deserves it based upon the things he has accomplished here in a short period. I know the rub is that he can't coach, and many of his decisions are perplexing, but he did take a team in 2010-2011 to the NCAA and a 12-6 Big East record. That team had accomplished less in their previous three seasons than the current team has. That team in year one had no post season, lost in the first round of the CBI in year 2, lost in the first round of the NIT in season 3, then went on a tear under Lavin in year 4. So, something was working. This group has to figure it out. Lavin told the Daily News after the game he's not planning on leaving, and I think that is true. The Johnnies are not getting rid of him for a while as well.

I'd kind of think that next year would be the determining year for Lavin. Don't think they'd keep him around with 1 year left on the contract like a lame duck coach.
