I thought the exact same thing but I am not holding my breath for a DePaul win no matter how bad Texas might be.
Buzz will get the Longhorns turned around next year.
I'm showing my ignorance here, but where is Longwood, and are they D1? Sounds like a Retirement Home.

We can't do it against Longwood. Those last 2 teams are among the very worst in all of D-1 basketball…they are in the 300's. It's painfully clear that this team cannot put anyone away no matter how awful. It can be the local YMCA team of 50 yr olds…we will let them hang around all game. Ridiculous. Sorry the rest of the teams have to witness this.
I foresee Lavin getting fired in the not too distant future after failing to develop players. This team is flat out terrible. I thought for sure tonight was the night we totally dominate all game or most of it. Again, that isn't the case. Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me. This team is a disaster and may be the most underachieving team in terms of talent to performance gap in the country.

Lavinwood wrote:This was another game where the final score implies the game was a breeze when in reality it was a legitimate game with only a few minutes left. The talent gap could not be any bigger between these 2 teams. Not only is Longwood terrible, but they are all young and inexperienced. We have veterans who might be in the NBA after this season or next. 1 game, ok. 2 games, fine. But every game now against pathetic competition and we look like we belong in their conference? Sorry but that proves to me that this team is not ready. I was in class and saw 1-10 from 3 (at that point). I rolled my eyes and said "of course". It's actually quite hard to be that pathetic from 3 that consistently. I'm dead serious when I say I think I can hit more open 3 pointers than Sampson, Greene, Pointer, Branch, etc. Look at UConn…literally every guard can nail 3's in their sleep. They can also drive. That's what I thought we would be when our much heralded recruiting classes were formed.
The only reason we won the past 4 games is because of the talent gap. Once conference play starts that talent gap will be much diminished. I do not see Lavin having a long future here. I wish he could coach players up but he can't. It's so obvious. The only time he has succeeded is with a previous coach's players here at SJ when they were seniors. He can recruit as well as anyone, but he just does not have that skill to mold players into winners. There are no fundamentals on this team. Really the only thing we do very well is block shots. That's the only thing we do at a high level right now.
People can say all they want about how a win is a win and close games happen, but 9/10 times the good major conference teams will dispose of these cupcakes of cupcakes to the tune of 30 points. Sure Duke or UNC may have a close game against a bum, but they will go out the next game and beat an NJIT by 40. The only way this SJ team does anything this year is if we drastically improve very quickly and I just don't see it. I think the NIT might be our best hope from what I've seen thus far. This was the year where we said we will find out if the problem is Lavin or the players. I think it's Lavin. These players with Coach K, Pitino, Boeheim, etc. would be amazing. Lavin seems to throw them out there and say "Ok guys, go play random street ball with no plan!". Just wait…he will be on the hot seat soon when he continues to get top 15 recruiting classes and nothing ever happens.
