I'd say that's a pretty fair assessment. I do expect Marquette to get much better by the time league play starts, but absolutely have work to do.
This is my opinion. There are many like it, but this one is mine.

Yeah, it's tough to play really good competition that shows everything so early. But Marquette will be better for it. Buzz will have his gentlemen ready.
Big East Basketball is what it's always been. Great competition nightly.
If the Atlantic 10 didn't suck, why is everyone looking for the exits?
There is a reason why the A-10 left a team in the Central Time Zone...SLU, your move.

This would be how I cast my vote as of now; way, way too early to really know.

1 Creighton
2 Villanova
3 Xavier
4 Georgetown
5 Marquette
6 Providence
7 St Johns
8 Butler
9 Seton Hall
10 DePaul
Villanova

We are still awaiting 2 responses, so I won't post them tonight. If I haven't heard from them in the morning we may just have to go without them. I may compile the fan votes here together to replace any missing ballots we have, so keep posting your rankings.

I made about 5 versions of my top 10... one with Creighton at #1 and one with Creighton at #6. I give up. I think 9 teams in our conference all have legit chances at NCAA tourney births. I think after all is said and done, only 6 will make it... and the regular season will decide who goes and who stays.

I think if St. John's gels well, they could finish as high as number 2 in our league. They have a lot of young talent, and I think they might finish the season strong.

I think if Providence gets Dunn back and everyone stays out of trouble, they will be a top 25 team as well.

It will be hard for us to get 6 teams in. And actually- if we did get 6 in, we'd have to have it where the #1 seed is like 12-6 or something like that, and 6th team is 9-9(I don't see us at all getting a sub .500 team in). Well- if that happens- our top team may be like a 5 or 6 seed, and then have a bunch of 8-12 seeds. What does that do? 2nd round games against 1-2 seeds. I'd rather get 4 teams in but have them all seeded stronger than have 6 teams in but seeded poorly.

So you're saying you wouldn't mind if your team was one of the two that didn't make it. A conference should always want to get as many bids as possible. Seeding is irrelevant once the tourny begins and 6 bids>4 bids.

Man, I want to agree with you, but as a fan of a team that has received back to back 8 and then 7 seeds, seeding absolutely matters. Having to play the one seed or two seed in your second game substantially reduces the chances of a team going on a nice run. Getting an 8 seed is like taking a punch to the crotch.

I guess the real question is, what makes the conference look better - more teams getting into the dance or more teams making it to the second weekend? I'd say the latter, especially when we are trying to build up some NCAA tourney credits ($$$$$) for distribution in the future.

definitely think it's more teams getting to that 2nd weekend. Not just for $$$ but also for publicity. Fewer teams for everyone to focus on.
