How many schools in the Big East play lacrosse? I know it's popular on the East Coast, but being a Midwestern guy I don't know much about it other than it being a Native American game and that the University of Denver had a pretty decent nationally recognized squad during my time there. Growing up in Omaha, I don't recall ever hearing about it being played at high school or in clubs.

Marquette, Georgetown, Providence, St. John's, Villanova. Denver is an associated member. 6 is the minimum for an NCAA tourney autobid.

Without looking at their roster, I'm sure St. John's gets most of their players from long island.

Also, the north jersey & long island catholic high schools send a lot of students to Providence, so I'm sure that's where PC gets a lot of their lacrosse recruits as well. Providence has a huge alumni base on long island.

I would say it's a growing sport, not a niche sport. Rowing is a niche sport. The B1G is adding Lax to it's group of sponsored sports once Rutgers and Maryland joins (UM, OSU, Mary, RU, PSU & John Hopkins). It creeping into the mid-west from the northeast, which is just continuing to show that those two geographic regions are merging in response to the south being largely unified. The B1G, Big East and A-10 all span both regions.

I can definitely see a few more schools in both conferences adding Lax within the next decade. MSU, DePaul, Wisc, Northwestern etc.

Spreading rapidly now. Getting popular in areas around Chicago, Denver, California, etc. When I was in college, the rosters were ALL stacked with kids from CT, NY, NJ and MD. Now you will see kids from areas outside of these traditional lacrosse hotbeds.

Hard to believe for many, but in many towns in New England, Long Island, etc. it's the spring sport of choice for the best athletes in those towns (the kids who star in football, soccer, ice hockey, etc.).

That is correct. Now is Denver in the league this season or do they start next season after Rutgers leaves?
