Big East Attendance figures 3/1

Took this off the PC board but interesting to see where all the teams stack up as far as attendance. Nothing too suprising. Villanova's numbers will go up after home games today against Marquette and Georgetown are at Wells Fargo. Average is 9,544. Based on last years numbers, this would put the Big East at 5th in attendance.

Great solid numbers across the board.
Also, PC's numbers were hurt their one game vs Butler. Because of the snow we got only like 2200 fans.

Georgetown sure looks like the big attendance loser here. Is that just because they were really good last year and not so much this season or more a factor of losing Cuse etc?
Nebraska by birth, Creighton by choice.

Falling from 2nd last year to 5th this year isn't very good, is it.

I'm not sure who the top 4 are, but my guess is the Big 10, Big 12 and ACC are three. The SEC is down in attendance this year and are asking ESPN for help on game start times, so is it the PAC-12 or the MWC? I know from last year that the A-10 has many small venues which limits their average.

Some thoughts.

1. Georgetown is down partially because they are having a down year. They also lost their biggest and most historic rivalry in Syracuse, which was generally the largest crowd each year. However, I think the biggest issue is that Georgetown wasn't expected to be as good as last year. Because of that they didn't get the number of season ticket holders they had last year. Marquette's numbers are better because we were expected to be a national contender, so we sold more season tickets than last year. Georgetown has always been a solid but not amazing drawing team. In a down year, without their rivals, they are still better than most.

2. The league as a whole is down because we lost top 25 attendance teams in Syracuse and Louisville, and other solid teams in UConn and Cinncy. The new members have done a stellar job of bolstering the numbers, but 22,000+ a game is hard to replace.

3. In general, attendance has been declining for college basketball. More televised games seems to be the largest issue, but the rough economy recently hasn't helped.

4. We have a couple of chances to bolster our numbers. Senior day is generally a pretty good draw for schools. Will it drastically increase anyone's numbers? Unlikely. But it will probably help some.

5. We should still have 2 teams in the top 25 and 4 in the top 50. Providence and Butler will probably fall just outside of the top 50. Every team will be in the top 100. The 85th ranked attendance team last year drew 6,257.

Overall, not bad numbers.
This is my opinion. There are many like it, but this one is mine.

It's the SEC, remember, they still have Kentucky which boosts their numbers. Our fall is mainly losing Syracuse which is like 30,000 fans a game and Louisville. My guess is it's Big Ten, ACC, SEC, Big 12 and Big East. This would be followed by Mountain West, Pac -12 (really low) and then the Atlantic -10 or American.

The Johnnies had over 10k for DePaul at the Garden, which is probably the most they have had for DePaul since they joined the conference. The Johnnies two lowest attended MSG games were Creighton and Xavier. Good shot those two get rotated onto campus next season and Seton Hall and Providence going to the Garden. Could see Butler in that mix as well.

Why did DePaul go to the garden, I figured that would be a horrible draw, was it just because it was on a Saturday?

If you only consider Big East games, Villanova will average over 10,250 in attendance this year. I say only BE games because in OOC will don't use the WFC(99%) of the time. Beating a dead horse, but we could easily fill a 12,000 on campus arena, if only Radnor township wasn't full of so many arseholes.

Is there a reason why Villanova only plays 4 games at Wells Fargo? Seems like they draw pretty well over there, not sure what rent they pay or if they lose money by going to Wells Fargo but the attendance is alot higher.
