There weren't really any indications, but it isn't super surprising. Right now we have an interim president and AD/VP, and funnily enough both are the ones that occupied their positions before the recently departed were hired. They were still employed by the university, but want fewer responsibilities. We are in good hands until suitable replacements can be found (the interim guys oversaw Marquette's rise back to national prominence on the bball court, and the AD was the one who led us out of independent status and into the Big East).

Is Buzz happier today or not?

Most likely. Word around campus was that Buzz and Larry butted heads a fair amount, although I haven't heard of anything recently.

That being said, "unexpectedly" is probably the exact wrong word to use here. Once Pilarz left, the writing was on the wall that Larry Williams' days were numbered.

Marquette coach Buzz Williams said Saturday he was shocked by the sudden resignation of athletic director Larry Williams.
