So you don't want those schools in the conference because you think we'll never compete with them ??? that's exactly what you mean. Villanova , Marquette and Georgetown did extremely well in the old Big East and Creighton , Xavier and Butler would also have played well in the old Big East. I want the best conference and the heck with the round robin.

Ill leave the rest of that absurdity to the others but this is just so ridiculous. This is reality. The Big East WAS NOT the best conference in the country, and is more or less, exactly the same now.
If you did not know that the conference wasn't made up with exactly the same teams, it would be impossible to figure out what is the 'old' Big East and the 'new' Big East. It is just what it is.
Bookmark this. Save it. Whatever. That is the reality, both of the 'then' and the 'now'. The Big East was ONCE the top rated conference in the entire time frame that Pomeroy has historical data.

St. John's was preoccupied with modernizing it's campus and completely neglected it's basketball team. I want the best conference and the heck with the round robin. some people on this website wanna add Davidson and St. Louis ???????????????????

Although I do not agree with the stance that SJU87 is taking, saying that our conference now is comparable to old BE is a little off too. Granted we are only in year 4. But we've had all of 1 team make the E8 in our first 3 years. The great thing about the old BE is that just about every team contributed and many did very well in March. It wasn't like the old ACC where it was just Duke and Carolina carrying the heavy load most years.
NC's (7):
Nova
G'town
Cuse
UConn (3)
L'ville
FF's (20):
Nova (2)
G'town (4)
PC (1)
SHU (1)
SJU (1)
UCONN (4)
Cuse (4)
WVU (1)
L'ville (2)
E8's (43):
Nova (6)
G'town (8)
PC (2)
SHU (1)
SJU (1)
UCONN (9)
Cuse (6)
WVU (2)
L'ville (4)
Marq. (1)
Pitt (1)
BC (2)
So... in total:
7/33 seasons a NC = 21.2% vs. 1/3 = 33%
20/33 a FF team = 60.6% vs. 1/3 = 33%
43/33 a E8 team = 130.3% vs. 1/3 = 33%
Granted for several years the BE conference had many more teams than we do today. But clearly if we want to compare ourselves to the ACC and the oBE, we need to do better in March collectively. We are a top conference by the RPI and Kenpom #'s. No one can doubt the data. But we need a larger number of us, going deep into the tourney. The oBe had 9 different schools make a FF over 3 decades. And it averaged at least 1 team in the E8 every year. If we can say the same in 25 years then this conference will be one of the all-time greats.
And I 100% reject the notion that it will only occur if we expand. We can be a dominant 10 team conference.
