So people talk about us needing to up our tourney success, but an area that has also been weak has been NBA players. But that should not be unexpected, as many of the old Big East teams that were cranking out NBA players more regularly are gone. But with the huge recruiting surge from FOX SPORTS, it appears that our NBA talent is increasing.
Who do you see as NBA potential players?
2016, I think we have a handful. Obviously Dunn will go early. I think Ellenson is going to go top 15 (the early season hopes of a soph season seem to be dwindling). I would be very surprised is Ochefu didn't land on a team (even if he's not a NBA star, he is still a good practice center).
NBA Potential from certain teams:
Xavier:
Tough team to figure out NBA-wise. I think Edmond Sumner oozes NBA potential. Trevon Blueitt is a good player, but as a sophomore I'm not sure if I am seeing NBA yet. Jaylen Reynolds at first glance appears to be NBA caliber, but is he too much of a tweener for the Association? Farr is actually more of a load than Reynolds. But Reynolds does have some freak athleticism, so maybe I am overthinking this? Gun to my head I say YES on Reynolds making the league.
Butler:
Not sure I see any NBA talent here. Dunham would be the only one. Dunham has that pure stroke and NBA range, so I wouldn't rule him out. I can't see Jones, Chrabasz or Tyler Lewis getting a sniff. I actually think Kellan Martin and even Ty Wideman has more of a NBA skill sest than the three just names.
Providence:
Dunn is a lock. Bentil is a bit Jalen Reynolds-esque in his NBA chances. I think Bentil has a decent shot at the league.
Nova:
I think Ochefu finds a team. Would be surprised if he didn't. He has NBA center size and enough coordination where somebody is going to put him on their roster. At the end of last season I though Josh Hart was a threat to leave after this year. I think Hart has a ton to work on offensively, however, and am not as high on his NBA potential as I was (definitely not as an early entry). Of the freshmen I think Bridges might have more of a NBA skill set than Brunson. Brunson is super crafty but doesn't really have NBA athleticism. Still not writing Brunson off yet, as he has the hype to keep in the conversation. I think Jensen is too one dimensional and not a good enough shooter to really have a shot.
Marquette:
Ellenson obviously. Maybe a guy like Sandy Cohen can keep improving? What's the deal with Cheatham?
Seton Hall:
I put Whitehead in the Josh Hart category. Needs to keep improving but could definitely get there. I'm not sure Delgado's style would translate to the NBA. Not really a true center size, but doesn't have any power forward skills. Maybe a guy like Desi Rodriguez can bust out?
Creighton:
???
Georgetown:
No clue. Half this team could be on NBA radar scouts, but I could see none of them making it either. Interested to see what others think.
St. John's:
Maybe one of the big freshmen? Yankuba Sima has to be on some draft radars simply due to his size. Yakwe has a freakish skill set too that should have him on NBA radars. not sure if either will develop enough, but the potential is there.
DePaul:
I don't think Henry, Garrett Jr. or Hamilton are going to get many NBA looks. Good players, will make money overseas.
