There's no excusing the St. Peter's and FDU losses- they were embarrassing and certainly a disservice to the entire conference, but Mercer doesn't fall into that "inexcusable" category. You could argue that the way SHU lost to Mercer was inexcusable (blowing a late lead, same as they did against OU), but Mercer was an NCAA Tournament team last year and they beat Duke in the tournament. That's not a bad basketball team.

What is so bizarre about that game though is that loss allowed us to get in the losers bracket and get a win vs VCU that wound up being one of our top wins of the year. So not sure if we had gone 2-1 with wins over Northeastern and Charlotte and a loss to Florida St would have been any better for us quite frankly. Yeah no bad loss, but no top level win either.

Right, Mercer and Oklahoma weren't bad losses at all. The way they lost were rough. These were two opportunities for good wins that they had in the bag but that improbably slipped away.

I said it a lot last year: the Hall sabotaged the league last year by losing those 2 horrific OOC games, then beating every Big East bubble team once or twice. If they beat the bad in-state teams they lost to, or if they don't beat the BE bubble teams, the league probably gets another team in. Damnit, Hall!

St John's swept them so that doesn't matter much.
Georgetown lost 2 to them. If that happens- it would have been Xavier vs St John's in what would have been a NCAA play in game, and then Georgetown/PC in what would have been a NCAA play in game for PC for sure and maybe for Georgetown as well(though I think we would have been in). So maybe if PC wins that game we get a 5th team in- but Georgetown would have been sweating bullets. If Georgetown wins, PC doesn't get in at all.

They said GTown was the first team out, no? If so I would imagine adding even one win over the Hall and subtracting one loss, coupled with a first round loss to someone other than DePaul, would have been enough to leapfrog one team and get in.

They did NOT say that Georgetown was the first team out. They NEVER say the team that was the first team out. Odds pretty good that SMU was the first team out quite frankly.

1 win vs Seton Hall doesn't change seeding at all. Georgetown would have tied with Marquette- and Marquette swept last year. So same end result.

Yea, SMU definitely got the shaft. They almost ended their 20 year streak of no NCAA appearances too.
