Here's your Big East lore, from Wikipedia circa 2039:
"The Big East Conference was reborn in 2013 after the abomination of college football destroyed the previous league. The conference struggled for exposure in its first year, because two of the traditional powers, Georgetown and Marquette, had disappointing seasons. One shining moment for the league in its first season was the play of three-time All American Doug McDermott, whose player of the year awards were the first for the conference since Walter Berry's in 1986. Villanova added to the league's luster with a Final Four run in 2015. By 2016, the league's top recruiting classes began to play dividends, as high school players flocked to schools where basketball was king. Marquette and Georgetown returned to prominence with Final Four appearances, with the Hoyas claiming the '16 national title. National titles quickly followed for other league members, including McDermott's Creighton Bluejays. In 2024, on the 10th anniversary of McDermott's season, the league named its player of the year award after the Bluejay legend for helping usher in a new era of greatness.
"College football, as it had previously existed, collapsed in 2020, spiraling into a sewer of corruption and greed."
