Graduation and Thoughts

Postby SJHooper » Sun May 18, 2014 8:53 pm

Congrats to all the graduates across the Big East and all over. I graduated with my MS today after 3 years of full time school, so it was a nice relief finally graduating. I will always be a Johnnie for life though! The ceremony went well, but I was left disappointed by our speaker. It was an in-house hire and he was essentially a no name. Kind of shocking that NYC's biggest school with powerful alumni like Ray Kelly (former NYPD commissioner), CEO of Vitamin Water, etc. couldn't get a big name. Many small private schools got much bigger names to come. Oh, well.

Congrats to all the graduates!

Pretty cool that Doug McDermott was one of three graduates to receive CUs highest honor, The Spirit of Creighton award, on Saturday.
Nebraska by birth, Creighton by choice.

Surprised they didn't rename the school after him. He's the biggest thing out of Omaha since steaks.

I have to give you props. Old Jay fan here, that was pretty funny. Nevertheless, this is a huge honor and one that our current president, Fr. Tim Lannon S.J., won when he was at school. Doug Mc (as has been said by others in the past) is a better person than a basketball player. At his level that is high praise.

Don't know the kid, but the fact that he was willing to stay after and sign autographs for the kids at Hinkle after Creighton beat Butler puts him up there in my book. Really would love to see him have a lot of success at the next level, though with his ability to score he'll be able to hold onto a roster spot for quite awhile I'd think.

We Butler fans don't have a ton of room to talk ourselves, Brad Stevens came back to speak at commencement, and his wife Tracy is now on the Board of Trustees for the school.
