Congrats to Doug! Well-deserved obviously. Nice to see the St. John's instagram page congratulating him as well. Some of the players also said it was a pleasure playing with him.

Best of luck to him going forward and of course the Creighton program.

Best Player ever to play in the Big East. Time will tell maybe an NBA all-star and follow in the footsteps of the likes of Larry Bird. No saying how many records he would own if he plays in the Big East all 4 years.

This is off topic but I wonder if any of the Creighton grads could tell me what happened to Tom and Rick Apke? Both played for the Jays back in the day. Tom became the Jays head coach some years after he graduated and then recruited his little brother Rick to play at Creighton. I know Tom Apke coached the Jays for several years then went to App State as head coach. What happened after that I can't say. I have no idea what happened to his kid brother. This is ancient history however I knew Rick in high school and he was player of the year in Ohio HS his senior year and was on a team that won two state championships. Any biographical info would be appreciated. Did Rick become a coach also? Does he live in Omaha, is he still a Jays supporter?

As to McBuckets there is no question he was the best player in the nation this year. The number of awards indicate his superiority however they do not indicate the degree of superiority which he attained. Everyone else was well down the list.

Rick became a doctor, I think he's still in the Denver area. He hasn't been back recently, to my knowledge. Tom was back this winter and was honored with other past CU coaches at halftime of a game. He's retired and living in North Carolina. Believe it or not, he has a bit part as an extra in a TV show that's filmed in the area, can't remember the name of it. Rick's shot to beat Larry Bird and Indiana State in the Valley championship game is still regarded as one of the top moments in Bluejay history.

Thanks Westroads,
They were both great guys and glad to see they did well with their life. Did not know Rick became a MD or Tom an actor. Appreciate the info.

Tom Apke has appeared in several episodes of Homeland. I think just as an extra, but still pretty cool.
Nebraska by birth, Creighton by choice.
