I'm not sure why this hasn't received more attention. Barlow is a finance major. To me, this is the highest honor awarded by the Conference. All Conference honors gets you free beers at the bar. All Academic awards get you job interviews.

All Conference Honors get you a job playing basketball somewhere....for more money...possibly in Europe.

All Conference means you have a good chance to make the NBA and make millions per year.. if not, then atleast $500k/year overseas

All Academic means that you might get a 50,000/year office job and hate your life

I think most people would rather be all conference

If your only measurement of success is money, then you just don't get it.

One or two Big East All Conference players will make the League this year for 3 to 6 years. That's the average career in the NBA. McDermott is not a lock for a 10 year career unless he learns how to defend. But this is not about him.

There are 30 and only 30 guaranteed new jobs in the NBA each year. First rounders get guarantees and 2nd rounders get a try out. Get cut and go to the D-League, you say. You know what you make there? According to ESPN's Marc Stein, there are three basic levels of D-League player salaries: $25,000, $19,000, and $13,000. That's per year. Being All Conference doesn't even guarantee you a job in the D-League.

You are really dreaming if you think all players overseas get $500K. Some BB jobs in Europe, Australia, Asia are for seven figures, but many are not. Then, after three years of living in China, you come back here with what.....running AAU programs? I personally know of two players currently overseas who are barely making ends meet. One is in Greece and the other in Australia. In Australia they cap each team at just about $1,000,000 for 10 players. The range falls between $200,000 for the established stars to $75,000 or less for the newer players, i.e. your All Conference Players. And there is no per diem added to it.

Give me an Academic All-American. If he applies himself, In the Mid-West, he can get a job out of school in the $75K range, and be making six figures in three years, with it increasing for life. Plus he has a life skill to contribute to society. Your guy's will be asking do you want a Tall, Vente, or Grande?

I'll repeat it. Give me the Academic All American for my team of making this country better. You can have a great rec team in your future.
